My, that’s a big ‘un!
Many things that claim to be big often turn out to be quite disappointing. Well this is big, thick and heavy –for an atlas. With 256 numbered pages and the inside covers, this holds a lot of info; and that is part of its problem. Technically, it holds up its end of the bargain, but the massive detail causes issues. This isn’t the kind of atlas you can easily carry around, its very much use in the car and leave it there –no country walks with this monster. Secondly, the 1” to 3 miles covers 30 miles east to west and 45 miles north to south, so you’ll be off the page in about 30-40 minutes of travel, less in coastal areas. Neither of these are serious issues for car use but the annoying Blue for motorways [used for water features] irritates. As for the atlas itself it has a 32 page index that includes a useful departmental map. There are 6 pages of town maps giving street plans for 39 French towns and 4 pages detailing central Paris. As with most ring binding, I don’t think this will last the rigours of many journeys where page changes are frequent. Basically containing almost any French village or hamlet this does the job intended, just make sure the detail is what you really need, it being most useful for finding those ‘out of the way’ locations that ‘search engines’ fail to find.

Re-sent damaged item (cheeky buggers)
I think someone is taking the pith.... First map turned up in a "paint covered box", sides of map had paint on them that had seeped through the outer box, so refused delivery. I was Told item had been cancelled due to damage, then the "SAME" map turned back up at my address the next day in a new box, but with a hand written address label on it. I looked into returning it again but no more maps are available for the foreseeable future!!! So WHO thought it would be OK to send out a damaged item to the same address that had sent it back the day before??? If this is the best Amazon Prime can do then I won't bother renewing next time. I wouldn't have minded if someone had asked me if I was willing to accept the damaged item back due to lack of stock. As for the map itself its big but very good, great detail and easy to read.

Not for the glove box
This is a truly BIG book! This can also be used as a picnic blanket when not in use to plan your route. We've not tested it in anger yet, but we have got the route plans pencilled in for the summer's Tour De FranceSat navs are ok to get from A-Z (not always the best or quickest route), but they don't always let you really explore the route beforehand to see the best way to go when you're looking to see something or somewhere different, perhaps just off the beaten track. They just show the quickest route or avoiding motorways or tolls etc.But this has so much detail you can almost decide which field to stop by for that picnic - not advisable to be used on wet ground

"Easy read" if you speak French well!
Be aware that "big" is a relative term. For instance, my wife was holding this map and her small hands made it look very big! If you have large hands it may appear small. Also, "easy read" is very dependant on your proficiency at pronouncing French place-names. However this is a very good ring-bound road map with route planner (large scale) section and even a nice driving distance/journey time table that I think is a kind of challenge activity to keep your interest long-term. The journey times quoted look quite beatable.

Ease of use
Toured France by caravan during September and October. Sat nav played up so I had to find the sites the hard way. I had purchased the michelin Atlas and the AA Atlas. Forget the michelin unless you have a magnifying glass with you. The AA Atlas is bigger, easier to read and much more informative. I know which one I'll take next time

Helpful Road Map for our Holiday
Although on the large size the maps are clear and it is easy to read place names etc as stated in the description. We are very happy with it.

Tres bon
Price was right and a very comprehensive guide but it’s flimsy paper and will certainly rip easily. Not very durable but good value for less than a fiver
