OSR at its best
Basic Fantasy is an OSR (old-school revival) tabletop rpg.Having GM'd a sessions for new players looking to get into ttrpgs. The system in itself is easy to pick up and play, character creation is straightforward and simple.Combat is quick and can be brutal, expect some characters to be killed off easily if reckless, I really like this as it makes the characters seem more fragile and less like action heros/gods, combat can sometimes be avoided if the players are careful and smart along with lucky in their dice rolls. ;)It revolves around mostly the d20 for actions like climbing, persuasion, attacking etc...What's more is you can try the game for completely free on their website and have access to all the premade adventures and supplements for no cost in .pdf or .ofd format. I purchased the book as I like to have a physical copy of the Core Rules with me when I GM the games.Would highly recommend this system for anyone wanting to give ttrpgs a go, or are looking for an alternative system from ones they already have.

Back to the beginning....
A fantastic and for me an emotional trip down memory lane. If you started playing RPG's in the 80's then this book will take you right back to those beginnings.

Just about the best value for money Old School Revival role playing game...
Basic Fantasy RPG is an old school revival RPG broadly intended to replicate the Dungeons and Dragons B/X edition. The rulebook contains everything needed to run an old school style adventure in just over 140 pages but do note that you can get totally free pdf files of the rulebook and a very large amount of prepared adventure modules and excellent community written supporting documents on the basic Fantasy RPG website (which includes many additional character classes to a whole array of additional spells and character sheets). Clearly a labour of love by Chris Gonnerman, for the price you simply can't go wrong buying this core rulebook. Having paid a small fortune for DnD 5th edition, which is nevertheless a great RPG, if your pocket can't stretch to the £100 or so that 5th edition costs just for the players guide, DM guide and Monster Manual, or you simply fancy getting some old school vibe going at your table get this. It is simply superb value for money, and if money is really too tight just Google BFRPG and download everything for free. It will keep you gaming for decades.

Fantastic RPG - Best Value for Money on the Market
Basic Fantasy is made by gamers for gamers. You can access free PDF copies of the book and all the adventures but for the price it's really great to buy a physical copy. You have everything you will need to either play or run the game in one book and the rules are so flexible you can easy add to it.The ruleset is easy enough for beginners but deadly enough for veterans. Really good for creating solo or co-op dungeon crawlers too.

Rock solid old school gaming!
This game is a modernised improvement over the original. It IS a retroclone of the classic D&D B/X (1981) but like most retroclones it does NOT replicate it rule for rule. There are some changes that make more sense for the modern gamer i.e. ascending armour class, less class/race limitations and restrictions, optional rules to tweak the game etc. This is a complete game, all in one book and perfect for players unfamiliar with fantasy roleplaying games. Its rules are light enough to not get bogged down looking things up and not as anaemic to the point where it may be too loose for novice Game Masters. The game's website also has this game for FREE as a PDF and a ton of free supplements for extra classes, races, character sheets etc. all provided by a helpful gaming community. Despite this game being free online, it's always nice to have it as an affordable paperback book (hell, if you have the money buy a copy for all your players!) So if you want to play classic D&D B/X, head over to Drivethrurpg and purchase the PDF, otherwise if you wish to play a modernised (and imho improved) take on an old school game, you'll do no wrong in getting Basic Fantasy Role-Playing Game.

Just buy it....
A simple to learn OSR game, which is effectively a tweaked version of the old B/X D&D, updating some mechanics to a D20 system with ascending armour class and clearing up some of the rules. I've played a few RPGs and had far more fun playing and running this than I did D&D 5E. It's less than a fiver, the modules are dirt cheap, easy to modify and a lot of fun. If you're looking to get into fantasy role playing, or want to try a classic way of playing with lighter rules, you'd be hard pressed to find a better option, particularly at this price.

Basic FANTASTIC Roleplaying Game
I cannot praise this RPG enough. Not only is it extremely well put together, their website offers a host of extras absolutely free. Heck, you can even download the rules for free, but at less than a fiver for a complete RPG, who wouldn't want a copy of the book - 36 years ago, the D&D Basic set cost £10. I run an RPG club at the school in which I work and have been able to give every kid in the club their own copy of the rule book.
