I guess I had my hopes too high for this book. In my opinion the storyline wasn’t believable yet it was also predictable. I didn’t come away from this book with any kind of deeper insight into domestic violence and why people who love each other hurt each other. Ryle, sadly had a very traumatic childhood event that left him forever damaged. That aspect of the story really isn’t addressed at all. Lily had a very disturbing childhood as it relates to her abusive father. Her mother stays with him for all the reasons most ppl stay with abusers. This part, about her parents is believable and stirring. Lily essentially chooses sexual tension and sexual attraction in a partner over substance and deep connection with a partner. Would I read it again - yes. But with lower expectations.
