Should have bought these earlier
I didn't have any particular project in mind when I ordered these, but they sure looked like they'd be handy to have around for some niche project. The first opportunity to get one spinning on the grinder appeared with dead roots sticking out of the lawn. My, can they ever remove the wood fast. In a few minutes I had some serious hardwood roots down to ground level. The disk I used shows virtually no wear, so I expect to get much more use out of it. I used the beveled disk, and if there is any tip I'd pass on, it would be to work the wood with the outer edge of the disk. It also worked well to take the corner edge off another piece and round it over. They do leave a rough cut, but dependent on pressure applied and the speed one is cutting. I'm sure now that I have these that they will get a workout in upcoming projects.

Properly Aggressive
These are not for delicate work. These are not for delicate work. These are not for delicate work. Important things must be said thrice. For roughing and wood removal and generalized shaping, these are excellent. I appreciate that there are four types, to fit different carving profiles. Be aware that this will remove a lot of material really fast. Be gentle and take your time. You can always pass over again to remove more, but you can not put wood back on that you have carved out too deeply.

great for me but not sure long term use?
I was using this set of 4 I got to test out and review, to remove the outer bark off of a RED OAK tree ring/cookie/round whatever you call it LOLThe bark is still tight even after drying!! and after slab leveling, it is still there!! all of it!! SHAME but i dont want it there So these have been used to remove the outer bark to get to soft goods underneath so the chisel can then be used. to get to the actual hardwood wood. I dont have a draw knife! and not sure it would have worked as the bark was so tight still. I was afraid i would have dug into the hardwood?? This WAS A MESS with bark flying all over the place PROTECT YOUR EYES!!!!!!! but i knew this would EAT IT OFF FAST AND AGGRESSIVELY which it did. Then once the rough outer bark was gone the chisels came out to finish. These held up for me but I have not used them long enough to see how the cutting power holds up? do they dull and how fast. BEING so aggressive they might just keep the ripping power with a good cleaning to get any resins off?? THESE ARE NOT FOR final shaping i can tell you that! these are rough in type discs to start a sculpting or shaping project not on the finishing end of things. I used a 4.6 grinder with a trigger back grip and lock on power switch and a side handle BECAUSE WHEN THIS GRIPS IT GRIPS! and you better be ready of it will eat WAY MORE than you wanted AND MIGHT just fly out of your hand it you are not ON POINT!! At about $5 each for my needs there was no reason to spend big $$ on some fancy brand for 1 tree right bark removal for 1 project! these work free just FINE!! and I will use again for sure as a carpenter! I can find all sorts of ways to abuse these!

So i really didnt expect these to do much of anything really. Thought they looked gimmicky but boy was i wrong. These things rip wood up . Very quickly shape wood however your heart desires. Doesn't seem to be getting dull whatsoever so they should last just about forever. Pretty amazing how quick it debarks a log leaving behind nice smooth wood. Very impressed

Quick Work
These burr like grinder tips make custom shapes hand scroll work quick and easy to achieve. I recommend clear kiln dried woods. The consistent texture facilitates a steady force any change in the wood grain or direction such as at a knot pushes back and requires adjustment to prevent being pulled off course or gouging. Lightening up the force allows for a second pass to match the cut. So take care to not increase the force if you hit an impurity. Gouged wood can not be replaced. These cutters are not for use with one hand or distractions.

Beware of the flap disc Sanders
The shapers themselves are made out of high quality material then I went to the flap disc. I've had two of them fly apart and one hit me in the head. Luckily I wasn't injured severely but the plastic that they are made out of is highly breakable. I guess you get what you pay for

Very fast material removal.
I have never used these kinds of wood gouges before so I wasn't sure what to expect. That said, they carve away a lot of material very quickly. I tried to use one to grind down a small stump, which it excelled out, but once I started getting into the dirt it made as huge a mess as you'd expect. That said, it seems like they tolerated the soil and rocks well enough. Definitely going to need to play with these more.

Could be dangerous but take your time and you will be fine.
I've been looking at trying some of these for a bit and at this price point I figured these would be good to give a try. They arrived just fine with no defects that I could see. Getting it out you get 4 of these grinders, they are all close to the same just different slopes on them. I got the deepest one I could find and used it on some pine to make a nice little bowl recess on a project I was working on. These do tear through the wood so go slow and be careful but they are a heck of a lot of fun. All in all, if you have wanted to try these but don't want to pay a steep price this is a good set in my opinion.
