Buy the smaller version of this radio
I already owned the smaller version of this radio, and bought this one in addition to get the much greater (2X) battery capacity. That was a poor decision because the smaller version is much better. This model does not have zoom/focus in the flashlight, making it much less useful, and the reading light is weaker and partially blocked by the case. It's larger, heavier, and more awkward to carry. And there are some other issues like the antenna being on the outside; the antenna on the smaller model retracts into the case. There are other drawbacks, as well.Other than the battery capacity, the only real advantage of this model is it has an input jack so you can play audio from your phone or music player through the radio's speakers; having the second speaker does not add any value, it just takes up space and adds weight. This one does have a separate on/off switch for the reading light, but that's not necessarily a good thing since it's near another switch (I think it's the SOS alarm), which can get activated by mistake; flipping up the reading light on the smaller model to turn it on works better. The really big minuses are the bulk and the poor flashlight, plus that it costs about 50% more than the smaller model.I didn't return this radio because it wasn't worth the trouble, and I may find some use for it, but I can't recommend It. I highly recommend the smaller, less expensive version.

A good way to be prepared for emergencies
I've been meaning to get an emergency radio for a while. It has some features that make it useful for other purposes: headphone jack to play music from your phone is probably the biggest one. That's nice for camping if you want some chill music outdoors. But mostly I'm interested in this for emergencies. I like the large battery capacity. It can run off of actual batteries, charge via USB, charge via solar panel (see pic) or charge via hand crank. The radio works well, though I don't like that the SOS button is right near everything else, I already accidentally turned it on once which produces a loud alarm. It's also got a bright flashlight on the side, a good feature for an emergency radio.

4000mAh Battery
The main reason I bought this model was the 4000mAh Battery. Other than that, the less expensive models have basically the same capabilities. I also noticed that even some of the more expensive models have a lower mAh battery. Having longer battery life is arguably the most important spec for an emergency (or convenience). Also better to provide enough charge on your cell phone for an emergency call. Note if the battery mAh is not up front in an emergency radios product description, it is probably 1000 or less. I ran it through its paces and everything seems to work fine. The AC charger adaptor cord is about 2.5 feet and the USB cord provided is short. Neither of which is an issue for its function. Its dimensions are approximately 2.5 by 7.5 in, so it might be smaller than you expect. To me, that's a good thing. Can't say I'm crazy about the color choices. Than again, orange kind of displays its use as emergency equipment. I keep it in my basement bedroom, which also serves as a tornado shelter, with the rest of my emergency supplies.

Might not be ideal for hi rise condo
I love its appearance and small size. FM reception is good. Volume range outstanding. I was confused about usb charging as the small red charge light does not react while radio is being charged this way; however, it did light up when cranking and using solar screen. Unfortunately, Weather channel was extremely choppy and only one of our five local AM stations can be picked up and only in the evening. Read in other reviews, post purchase, that radio must be left in standby (assume that means turned on and tuned to weather station ...not sure if volume can be left on low nor how loud alert would be. If it triggers the same alarm as SOS button I'd be sure to hear it as would the neighbors. Cranking is much easier than a crank flashlight I had at on time. Not sure at this point whether or not I'll keep it.

Good beach radio
UPDATE - After fully charged there was no more station dropping. It stayed tuned in. The alarm is undoubtedly my fault in handling of the product as my friend does not have the same issue lol. When it finds and holds a station it works great but for some reason it keeps dropping the stations so I'm constantly adjusting it. When the solar power went it was easy to move to battery. The alarm works great, everyone at the beach can attest to that when I set it off not once but twice in one day - it's on the handle. The light is also on the handle but it's not as easily turned on.

very pleased with it
This is an amazing little radio and I am very pleased with it. We have not had the weather for me to try out the solar panel, but it is very easy to charge. It does so much for something so small that it is quite amazing.I would think this would be great for camping. Don't be put off by it's size and the plastic appearance as it really is a gem of a radio.

Great addition to your emergency kit...
I got this radio because I live in California and they keep shutting our power off (yay). This is a great emergency product for your emergency kit. While small (about the size of 2 VHS tapes stacked on top of each other) this does exactly what it's supposed to. You have multiple ways to charge it. First you can charge it with any standard micro USB cord and charger. It has an included rechargeable battery pack. It can also be charged using the built in solar panel on top of the unit. You can also use 3 AAA batteries as backup and, finally you can use the hand crank to power it. It includes AM/FM radio and weather band radio. There is a built in flashlight and the ability to charge your cell phone off of it (I haven't tried this feature). The speakers aren't going to win any awards but the sound was clear with good volume. I used this during the last power outage (24+ hours). I had it on for probably close to 12-14 hours and it ran the entire time on a single charge. Great product.

Cute
So far, so good. I haven’t really used it as I only bought it for emergency purposes. It doesn’t get the news station I was hoping it would (1010), but 680 is accessible, so it should be okay in an emergency. The sound quality in my bedroom (where I tried it) isn’t that great, but that might just be the location. I like the size, color and shape of it. I just don’t like that the SOS alarm button is placed where it is absolutely going to get pressed by accident.Other than that, the light is bright, so I like that.Haven’t tested out its water resistance.

Multiple Defects and Design-Flaws -- Totally Unsuitable For Emergencies!
I don't normally review products, but I feel compelled to tell everyone avoid this product. This product is totally unsuitable for emergency situations and is literally one of the worst designed and constructed pieces of electronics that I have encountered in my entire life. My unit had the following defects/design flaws:1. The analogue dial for the radio, which is already very tiny and hard to work with, was wildly inaccurate. When I finally found 99.1 FM after around 3 hrs of searching (I had to find a station, listen until the call sign, then continue searching), the dial showed around 95 FM. Brutal. An analogue dial is bad enough to begin with -- digital is way better -- but if it's inaccurate by 5 MHz, it becomes a complete and total nightmare (and god forbid you were ever trying to use it in an emergency situation...).2. The switch between the rechargeable battery and the disposable batteries did not work. Instead, all of the batteries in the unit were apparently connected at all times. I knew this because, if the rechargeable battery had juice, the unit would work even if the unit was switched to use the disposable batteries and there were no disposable batteries in the unit. This design flaw means that you could never store the unit with a full charge -- you would need to manually disconnect the rechargeable battery (again, god forbid you didn't realize that until you were trying to use it in an emergency situation...).3. The speakers were out of phase. I happen to be an audio nerd, so phase cancellation is pretty clear to me, but you can notice it when listening to a stereo if the sound seems to disappear between the two speakers. This defect/design flaw is less dangerous than the two above, but it would make the unit less efficient so that you would be using more batteries than necessary -- not ideal in an emergency situation.4. The light that is supposed to show when the rechargeable battery is being charged only worked when using the hand crank. It didn't light up when the unit was plugged in. This made it impossible to know if the unit was properly charging when it was plugged in -- very frustrating.Based on the number and severity of these issues, I can only conclude that the design and manufacturing process is fundamentally flawed.

great
For a small radio the sound is great and the battery holds it charge for the time it says. Very impressed with it for the price. I think it was better than described, I will be buying more in the next year for some of my family, for birthdays and next xmas.I love this little radio. Great value.
