The lock cylinder on my patio sliding door had finally given up. Calling a locksmith for a patio door felt expensive and unnecessary. Prime-Line's E 2000 cylinder is exactly the kind of part that makes a DIY fix possible without any special skills. The brass housing and 5-pin tumbler construction feel solid and durable. Installation is straightforward for the intended application of surface-mounted patio door handle sets, and the hardened cut-away tailpiece can be snapped at multiple break points to accommodate different door thicknesses. One practical note worth flagging: during installation in a patio door, make sure the tailpiece is oriented correctly before fully seating the cylinder. A little test rotation before final tightening saves a headache. Also, the keys that come with this cylinder are unique to this lock and are not interchangeable with your existing Kwikset or Weiser keys even though the keyway looks compatible. This is a replacement cylinder, not a re-key of your existing system. With that understood, it is exactly what it needs to be: a reliable, affordable replacement that skips the locksmith bill.

Wow! It fit my vintage sliding door handle perfectly! Works great! You better be a handyman if this is a new install tho... my door didn't come with a lock and so the hole for the lock in the handle had to be drilled out... don't try and knock the slug out... pot metal doesn't tolerate abuse well... and there is a little notch that needs to be cut out to accommodate the bar that keeps the lock stable, a metal file works great for this... and make sure the hole you drill is slightly, very slightly larger than the key hole housing or it won't turn once you install it. And then you need to drill a hole through the door so the lock mechanism bar has a space to slide through...A little work... but it does work! Whew!

For a long time I searched on how to add a lock to several sliding glass doors we had added to the house. There aren't a lot of details on which locks fit which doors but I was convinced by other reviews this would fit the Pela doors we added. The instructions were clear and they installed easily. Once I had the plug out it was about 5 -7 minutes before I was throwing away the packing and testing the keys. The only real thing to be concerned about, except for shape of course, is the depth of the metal part that runs the lock. The are scores along the metal piece that make adjustments easy. I didn't need to remove any sections for my door but its nice to know if your lock is more recessed you can make this shorted with a pair of pliers and a couple bends back and forth.

I used this to change my schlage style key to kwikset style key. My door was a Pella I think "Architecture" model sliding door. I was able to re-key this lock to match my other doors. If you've re-keyed a few locks you can do it no problem. The lock is not made by kwikset, so you will not be able (at least i wasn't) to used the same pin numbers as your kwikset locks. You will have to try different pins (one pin at a time) till you find the right lengths for your key. Standard kwikset pins worked, I didn't have to file any pins down to make a custom pin length which was nice. The whole process was maybe 30 minutes. I didn't separate the cylinder from the housing and it would have gone faster finding correct length pins had I done this and if a custom pin length was needed this would probably make the job easier. I guess I sort of see why some complain of the quality but I don't see much difference from any other lock sold today. It feels somewhat "flexy" when turning but not sure if the original was any better because I never had a key for it. The mechanism is pretty stiff so I am not certain another lock would feel any different. If I was planning to use this lock everyday I wonder if it would last, a lock direct from Pella MIGHT be better quality- but not worth it to me.

I ordered 2 of these locks; 1 for my patio door, and 1 later on to convert a Eufy smart lock to a kwikset keyway. This cylinder worked for both of my use cases perfectly. Note: When installing in a patio door, make sure the tailpiece is turned the correct way to avoid bending the tailpiece when trying to unlatch the door; as you install it, lightly see if the indoor lock is able to be turned, if you feel any resistance, take the lock out, turn the tailpiece the other way, and re-install. Also, I ended up having to use a dremel to remove some of the tailpiece as the provided cut points weren't at the length I needed for my application.

I purchased this and a Prime-Line handle/latch kit at the same time. Installation wasn't as seamless as the instructions would imply. The instructions indicate you can simply tap the "knockout" slug and it all just magically fits together. I actually had to do a bit of hand filing to get it all to go together properly, THEN some more drilling and filing to the door frame. On the Home Handyman scale of difficulty I'd give this one about a six. Requires hand tools and a power drill and maybe 30 minutes for assembly and fitting. Also, a round file and some sandpaper was useful for final fitting.

I couldn't get the key out of the cylinder after installation. The product looks and feels of good quality and it was easy to install. I'll have break the key so I can return it and get another one.

I've been meaning to install one of these for a long time. Instructions say to "punch out" the hole for the lock, but it is solid aluminum. A step drill must be used. Took a bit of finagling but to get it right, but eventually the dummy succeeded. Recommend for price, quality, and quick delivery.

Watched youtube instructions, punch out the hole. First try failed because I got it upside down. So it would not lock or unlock. After reversing the orientation, works like new.

Work, but the circle is too big for my old lock, I need to modify my lock a little.

Sometimes, you want to change the key, eg: a dispute with a former roommate or change in tenants. Instead of changing the whole lock, you can change the key cylinder only. They are very easy to change. No locksmith required if you are smart and good with manual things. You remove the lock, pull the former cylinder, put the new one and put back the lock. Same principle with doorknob.
