Raspberry Pi 5 HatDrive! Bottom HAT works!
I added the HatDrive! Bottom (received the 2024 V3) to a Geekworm Aluminum Passive Cooling Heatsink Armor Case with Dual PWM Cooling Fan for Raspberry Pi 5 (with Dual Fan-Black) (B0CNVF6G8R) with an NVMe heatsink (B09JMSLHPS) and a strip of High Heat Harness Tape (B01I2MLN2Q) to protect the circuit board. The PCIe FPC cable was a bit of a tight fit, but it did work. I recommend laying the Raspberry Pi 5 end to end next to the HatDrive! Bottom to connect the PCIe FPC cable. I mounted the HatDrive! bottom "upside down" (NVMe drive facing away from the Raspberry Pi 5). I added M2.5 standoffs (8mm and 16mm) to provide some breathing room around the HatDrive! Bottom.Running Jeff Geerling's stress script (altered to 1 minute wait, 5 minute runtime, 2 minute cooldown), the temperatures (C) were:Start: 46.1Start (average): 45.5Minimum: 45.0Maximum: 63.7Stop: 52.1Stop (average): 52.5Stop(average) – Start(average): 7.0Stop - Start: 6.0I will probably use the setup as is, but it could be placed inside some kind of enclosure. I haven't yet found an enclosure that meets my needs.

works but slower than Top drive or Waveshare NVMe boards
It just works so that's the 5 stars. However, the surprise is the Bottom is slower than the Top HatDrive, both at PCIe Gen2. I tested Gen3 on 8 Pi 5s and all generated errors with Gen3 speed so don't recommend Gen3. It could be just my Pi 5s, but 8 is a lot of Gen3 fails, which is why I think Pi 5 is certified only for Gen2, i.e., too much noise to degrading signals for Gen3. In any case I expected the Top and Bottom HatDrive to give me similar scores with Pi OS and I was surprised when the results with different. Yes using the same NVMe SSD was used, which is why it's so surprising. Yes variations are expected but it's so different that it's outside of expected variations.

Works fine but some design issues
Works great with my WD Black SN770 SSD. There are a couple of issues with usability though. The SD card can't be inserted or removed without disconnecting the ribbon cable. That can be a pain. Also mine did not include the built-in silver nut to hold the SSD, as shown in the pictures. Mine came with a separate brass nut which requires screwing in from the back side. This is frustrating because I have to unscrew the 4 standoffs and remove the board to access the screw.

great addition for the Pi5!
Using this with my Pi5. Easy install and config. I 3D printed a case for it, and my Pi5 is a little monster now. Incredible step-up for having an NVMe with the Pi. Great product, highly recommend!

This is a bottom Hat board that will block the Micro SD Card
It works and I like the LED indicators. However, the flat ribbon cable will block access to the Micro SD Card. This is also a bottom mount board to the RPi5. Which means you will need a special case. Especially if your NVMe stick has heat sink ribs.
