I wanted this item to sort out true North for my astronomical telescope's computerised GOTO system, but as a lifelong out doorsman, boat owner and angler, I've some idea of how useful it might otherwise be as a navaid and weather prompt.It has an unexpectedly trashy, cheap plastic feel, and turned out to be much smaller than I expected, (once package is opened !) for an almost £30 odd purchase.I found it difficult to program and use, some language difficulties in the manual (which needs to be kept safe to have any chance of complicated future reprogramming etc). Feels and behaves not much better than a cheap toy rather than a scientific instrument on which your life may depend. There is no easy on/off switch to spare the slender button battery supply. The compass, in particular, seemed easily perturbed by local ferrous metals, the compass function auto switches off after too short a period to allow proper settling, and is also significantly inaccurate and inconsistent when repeatedly critically observed. I couldn't complete the magnetic polar deviation input satisfactorily after several practice attempts and my small mag deviation of 0.4 degrees here couldn't be properly inputted anyway, though I doubt this would have made any difference.If you need a quality, robust dependable navigation/hiking outdoor safety aid. After a lot of research, I gave this one a go but was still concerned about quality versus the low price. My concerns were justified when I used it for the first time and found it fairly useless. I needed this to be accurate so checked against a local O/S datum point. The reading on this device was miles out. Returned immediately.

Trying to find a small enough screwdriver to install the batteries was challenge enough. This was already showing the temperature to be 35 Degrees and the screen flashing on and off. I tried to use the compass, however, the temperature kept popping up on the screen. This is not easy to use quick view item and for that reason, it is being returned.
