Great expansion
This is a great expansion. It takes a little more thinking when laying down tiles. My very first game I was able to get all three monasteries. So I got 5 points x 3 + 5 for a 2-person game. All four boards are different, front and back. Basically you try to get the 5-tiles in a straight line between the images of the monasteries. Each side has a possible 3 different paths. The designer did a great job of avoiding an easy path. Very challenging. I’m not sure if it is an advantage using these boards against a player who doesn’t use it. Could be tit-for-tat. Wife and I played two games and loved it.

Terrific, but not essential Expansion!
The Monastery mini Expansion adds a neat new mechanic to the Classic Castles of Burgundy. On each of the new maps, three monasteries are printed on three random (different) hex sides (each map is different like the advanced maps). Players will now get points by connecting their monasteries to each other across five (various) land tiles in a straight line within their realm. Each time a player connects one monastery, he/she gets 5 points. The first player to connect all three will get and additional 7 points (just like being the first player to cover an entire color)This means that a player can score up to 22 points (in a 4 player game) by completing this goal first! Which is nothing to sneeze at in this game! Second place would get you around 20 points and so forth; again, like covering an entire color within your realm!If you want more variety in your Castle of Burgundy game, this this expansion is a no brainer! if you're happy with the game as is, then skip this or wait for a good sale!

Pricey
Not a needed expansion. Nice option but too expensive for the money. This can be a complicated game to learn, but once learned it is one of my favorites.

This expansion really extended our enjoyment of the game
While we are addicted to playing this game, we were beginning to become a bit bored by the board options, so this expansion really reinvigorated our playing pleasure. And the "monastery" feature was a nice addition as well.
