nice to have an unusual colour
This is the second Maxi lead i have purchased, the last being the one size smaller in this make (which was left on a family holiday). I have a golden retriever, normally well behaved on the lead (unless a dear is spotted). I like that these have tape rather than cord, as it makes it feel more secure. I normally walk my dog off lead, using the lead to get to the local common, or if there are joggers (she often likes to join the fun).I chose to get this in the teal colour, just because it was nice to have alternative colour choices in a dog lead. Though it i a big lead it is comfortable to hold. There is a dial which allows you to reduce the grip size in the hand. Which i have not needed to use. There is a stopper prior to the end of the lead, which stops it retracting too quickly. The tape expands with ease, and the button to stop the lead is well positioned for easy use, and easy to lock in place (unlike the smaller version of this lead). My only want for this would be for it to have a ring pull to enable it to be hung from the coat hook, or to hang poo bags.Very happy with the quality of this lead, and would recommend to others

A great lead to give your dog a bit of freedom
This lead is a really good product but I'm not sure I would bother with the accessories, the light looks like a good idea but is just not powerful enough. The soft stop does work but you can achieve the same effect by simply not keeping your arm outstretched if you don't want to spend another Β£11.Since I am not reviewing the accessories their shortcomings, though noteworthy, are not relevant. The lead extends and retracts smoothly and the locking mechanism is very easy to operate though it is not too keen to release when the lead is under load, easily fixed by moving your arm forward to release the tension. My only real criticism is the range available, I wanted the 8m length but my dog only weighs 20Kg so why you can't get an 8m tape in the medium size lead is a mystery to me. It is the freedom that these retractable leads are all about and if the medium lead needed a slightly larger diameter reel to accommodate a longer tape, I suspect that that is a compromise most people would be happy with.Don't use it is a group unless it is locked down, you will be forever apologising for tripping people up, dog really have no sense of the proper etiquette when walking in company.

Excellent product, good quality
This is a quality item. I was skeptical of getting a retractable lead for my dog as she's big and strong, and fast! But this is robust enough to handle her.I would say it's important to watch how you use it. If she does decide to take off, I try not to let her build up speed before applying the lock. That can make things worse for her (and me perhaps) than if she was on an ordinary short lead and had not had the change to build up the speed.I use this with a comfortable harness and the springy attachment for the lead that can be ordered separately. Altogether I think it's the best solution for a dog who likes to wander around but who cannot be trusted off lead in many situations. This way she gets some freedom, while I am still able to exercise control. The one thing I would add to this is something that would allow me to add a loop of some sort, which I could put around my wrist and avoid having to put this down when I need both hands free to do something, such as tie the knot in a little plastic bag!

Great overall. My only choice
This and my last vario lead tend to slightly split open occasionally with wear, but manually pushing both sides together seals the deal. Itβs an overall great lead, I love how all the accessories let me carry everything and more in one hand. I liked last years vario with interchangeable tips as my dog pulled a lot and he loved the elastic ending (my shoulder also loved it). The LED light accessory is a must in the uk in my opinion! It would be great if it could easily rotate instead of being fixed in one direction with its Velcro.

the difference between the Classic and Vario are night and day you can feel how comfortable the Vario is due to it having a cust
I have had a few Flexi dog leads in both classic cord type and Vario tape versions and I must say they last for years, the last one we had was the Vario tape as the cord of the classic wrapped around my ankle when our dog was younger and caused a huge gash due to rope burn but thats NOT a problem with this version. You can actually feel the quality in the lead when you press the finger brake to stop the retractable lead from going too far as it stops dead in it's tracks, the difference between the Classic and Vario are night and day you can feel how comfortable the Vario is due to it having a customised handle adjustment system and soft grip. The other really nice thing about this system is that there are various accessories you can add to it like a box for treats or poop bags, a LED lighting system or even a LED flash belt to replace the original clip for added safety at night. All in all i'd highly recommend any of the Flexi products as they are made to a very high standard and they are a company you can trust.

Great lead but very big in a small hand.
This was bought to replace a Flippy lead as it should cope with heavier dogs and our puppy may outgrown the weight rating on the Flippy. The tape is much less likely to tangle than the cord and feels very sturdy. Obviously the dog hasn't noticed a massive difference but I have. However the reel itself is not easy to manage. I have small hands (as in I buy gloves in a "small" size) and the reel just feels too big and too heavy. I have adjusted the handle with the adjuster but the locking mechanism is still too far away for my thumb to easily reach so I find myself supporting the reel with my other hand whilst I depress the thumb lock.So if you have a bigger dog and a small hand this lead might not be your best solution. Other than that it is great quality, very smooth and easy to use.
