God's Grace in Your Suffering Review: A deep, empathetic, and highly effective personal workshop on suffering, loss, and other challenges we face - This is a wonderful, compact book that will be of great help to anyone who is experiencing physical or emotional suffering--or who is facing challenges in their life (I guess this includes most humans). It is not about the theology of suffering but rather a very personal book that puts the reader at its center--Powlison even says his book is a workshop for the reader to help him or her deal with suffering or loss. His empathy is deep and heartfelt, his knowledge of scripture outstanding, and the questions he asks the reader are penetrating. A very, very helpful book that stands out in a sea of cliched advice about suffering. Highly recommended. Review: A Wonderful Read! - This book ministered deeply to my heart. You don't have to be walking through suffering to glean and learn from it, but it will ground you in truth and hope for when the day of suffering comes, the truths from this book will ring true and will revive and refresh your soul. Every reader should have this gem in their bookshelf.

Powerful
I will be reading this book over and over...I am certain there are truths to be uncovered every time. While the hymn, "How Great a Foundation" isn't new to me, this book certainly provided an opportunity to actually LISTEN to the powerful message in it. It's great for an individual going through loss or suffering, but would be an excellent resource for pastors and counselors.

A MUST HAVE BOOK
No one wants to suffer. This man truly understands. A great book. Not long but very deep. It is an excellent book for all who are suffering or those watching others they love suffer.

Balm for the Soul
This is a word of healing, a word of encouragement, and a word of hope to those of us who are suffering in this fallen world (and that is all of us). I can not recommend this book higher and I would run out of superlatives trying to express my admiration for this book. I encourage you to read it. It will minister to your heart and mind.

Solid Powlison
I'm familiar with Powlison from his previous books. My husband and I got this one to work through together, and it has been helpful to both of us. We've been reminded of truth (Powlison has always done this well - pointing you to scripture as well as hymns and other writers), and it has helped us put our individual grief into words as we're grieving together.

Suffering sucks. It’s hard, painful, lonely and isolating. Yet this helpful book shows us how our suffering can be resurrected and may turn into a benefit for ourselves and others. On the whole it is a sobering and good guide through this bleak terrain. May it be of help to you as well.

David Powlison describes very cautiously yet precisely the feelings that overwhelm us when we face hardship, and he gives the right biblical answer to it, by reminding us who God is, what He does for us, and what He is asking us (or not asking us!) to be or to do in those moments. The practical testimonies from his own periods of suffering are very humbling and encouraging. A must-read, easy and accessible to all.

Helps us put our hardships and trials into perspective and to see how the Lord helps. Helps us to apply Scripture to our difficulties and circumstances.
