Viking 1840 Series Welding Helmet

. it was very nice and light, also nice headgear .I weld 10 hrs a day and it felt wonderful. The lens is also very nice and easy to operate. visibility is awesome, very clear. good job!

As you get older, you need more light to see details and I was having difficulty seeing while welding. Most of my welding involves me sticking my head in or under equipment making repairs. I had to frequently stop and check that I was on track as I would wander off the crack since I couldn’t see it. This hood came in and I went to the shop and ran a bead. Wow, amazing the difference. I can actually see the bead and weld path. Just what these 70 yo eyes needed. I’m adding the cheater lens and should be good to go. Can’t believe I waited this long to get a quality welding hood.

Was going to buy just a new 4C lens for my older style 1840 and found buying a whole new one a cheaper alternative. I have to say it doesn't even feel like the same hood. The new style headgear is more than comfortable and sits further back from the lens so my larger than normal nose doesn't smear it. The pivoting back to the headgear doesn't make the back of my head ache anymore. The shade darkens extremely fast compared to the old style 1840. Tacking used to be a guessing game in dark corners or shadows. I can see perfectly now with the 4C in the same conditions. I honestly believe I have better control of my puddle and a better idea of whether or not I'm welding too hot or too cold because the cool blue shading makes color and contrast more vivid. To be honest, I don't think the comparison picture in the advertisement does it a true justice. I looks way better in real life. I definitely would recommend this for a student welder, a DIY person, or an average Joe who wants a quality hood at a decent price.

First helmet I've bought since high-school welding class. Auto.dim is a must ..makes a world of difference seeing where you gotta start..to keeping a straight line..quick safe dim also has spark sensor for grinding..is horrible on the eyes. Bright as the sun..I found out..so grind with.the helmet on ..and throw your welds down..first time relearning since high-school..realize I've been missing out..

This helmet works really good and is comfortable. The name brand is important when something as important as being able to see is at stake.

The headgear for this helmet was easy to adjust and the instructions were clear. I like the adjustability for the welding darkness as well as the grind setting. The helmet comes with additional protective screens for the inside and outside of the viewing glass and a helmet bag which are great bonuses (plus a sticker packet my daughter is using). The only thing that I would improve would be the very small blinking light that indicates the helmet is in grind mode. It's too small to be easily noticed. Of course, it only takes striking an arc once on grind mode before you figure out to check every time before you start welding. I do like the real color screen instead of the green alien scene in older and cheaper helmets.

I am overall very pleased with this unit. My experience level is a hobby welder. I use this helmet mostly for MIG welding. This replaced a Hobart auto darkening helmet that I had to replace. The pre-weld visibility is good, but you need to have a very well lit area to see with the clarity shown in the item photos. Adjustability between welds is very convenient. I normally wear this over a welding cap. The combination has been very comfortable. It will sit for weeks at a time between uses and has had no issues. I would buy it again if needed.

I love this weld helmet, I use it almost everyday, I did have to order more lenses to cover the auto darkening. It is comfortable even when flipped up.
