What is the length of the 8mm variation of the hex key?

20cm from blue head to end of the hex key(long). The head part has a length of 10.3cm(shortside). I have 5mm hex key and I use it for my MTB and it works great, especially a long side in tight places that needs torque, built like a rock and light weight.

What size for pedals?

It depends on your pedal. Some pedals like Crank Brothers use a hex wrench; Crank Brothers uses a 8mm hex. The Park Tool Ph-8 would handle this although the Ht-8 is better because you'll get more leverage with its longer handle. Other pedals use a 15mm cone wrench like the PW-5.
