loved it!
I absolutely devoured this book as I loved the previous kindled books immensely !This whole post apocalyptic world is set so beautifully that the images and the emotions evoked are quite profound . Each book focuses on a couple and their survival and their relationship. This book follows Chloe and Jimmy and it’s more of a arrange marriage turned love . It all felt so real , the characters and their interactions . Very subtle yet speaking a thousand words . Chloe is complex as she was only fourteen when the asteroid hit and it’s been 9 years since then . She retains a sense of innocence and naivety that is quite endearing as a it’s evident in her cluelessness about human relationships . Jimmy himself has suffered losses so there’s definitely a huge communication gap between them . Yet not at a single moment did I think that I was becoming tedious or vexing !I didn’t want this book to end . Sad to read that the next one will be the last one

Such a great installment in the series
Headlines:Relationship of convenienceUncertaintyTrustThis series is such a comfort-series for me and Homestead didn't disappoint. Chloe was previously sheltered from the dangers of this post-apocalyptic world in the nine years since impact until her protection was lost. This loss was actually the making of her and it was interesting seeing her learn how to work and pull her weight in this new life.Jimmy had saved Chloe and proposed this relationship of convenience. This story was somewhat predictable and no less enjoyable for it. Is some of this series formulaic? Yes. Do I love it even so? Yes. Jimmy was not a sharer and I could really feel the aches as Chloe repeatedly tried to tamp down her feelings of frustation, tiredness and strain as she tried to be a good partner. The plot direction that brought all these feelings finally to the surface was such good reading. There were moments of adrenaline and then moments of feelings exposed; I was here for it all.We keep seeing Mack on and off in this series and I am in need of his story more than ever after Homestead. Please keep writing these stories, Claire Kent, I am here for them all.Thank you to the author for a review copy.

Fantastic addition
On the surface there isn’t a whole lot happening in this book; but it’s a great addition to the series. This is such a wonderfully nuanced study of domestic life after the world has shifted. Its heart is in making relationships work and finding your way in a new world. I thoroughly enjoyed Homestead.

Brilliant as always
I love this realistic post-apocalyptic world where the men are stoic, real and solid characters. Real salt of the earth types.I also like how women are pigeon holes as home makers. They are diverse in this world. Some are explorers, warriors, homemakers and farmers. They have men who standby by them.

HEA
Another great addition to the series. Even though any book set in a dystopian world is bound to be a bit heavy and/or depressing, it's important to find the good amongst all the destruction and subsequent overhaul of life. Claire Kent does that perfectly with Chloe and Jimmy's book being another great example. Jimmy finds and saves Chloe just in time and their relationship builds from there with Chloe becoming Jimmy's 'woman', moving in with him and taking over the household chores. The dynamics of the relationship, however, are tricky for Chloe as she feels grateful for a good life in an awful situation but that it could be taken away if she puts a foot out of line. That's not how Jimmy sees it, but as he is not a very expressive man, Chloe has no idea of his true nature and feelings.Through some angst, they figure it out and get their HEA, carving out their little piece of happiness in a dark world.

Homestead
What great slow burn romance. Relationship of convenience in a post apocalyptic world. Chloe has been sheltered and is learning how to survive on her own. Jimmy is taciturn, capable and kind, offering her his protection. Convenience turns into so much more. Really enjoy visiting this world, it feels gritty and believable with an underlying warmth and heart.

Old formula gone bad
I love this series and Claire's work, but this book is just LOTS AND LOTS of steamy scenes with little story worth reading in between with a wimp 30 male and a silly eye- turning girl, ugh, what a bumper.I could use worst words but I don't think the plataform would allow.

amazing
Another amazing story by Claire Kent in the Kindled series.Jimmy and Chloe come together because of circumstances and it is transactional for them both. He has a partner and helper and lover, and she has a provider, protector and lover. This story has a few familiar faces from previous books. We get to see Cal and Rachel and Mack. The interaction between Jimmy and Chloe is sometimes comical, sometimes hot, and sometimes frustrating.Well written, well plotted book in the series.I really enjoyed it and read it in one day. Highly recommend.

Two strangers making it work in post apocalyptic America
This story is basically two strangers deciding to live together as a couple would, working the land together, and spending their evenings together.“Jimmy Carlson needs a partner. He wants help in his house and a woman in his bed, and he'd like that partner to be me. In return, I get a place to live, plenty of food, and the protection of a competent man and his larger community. It's a good deal, so of course I accept.”Chloe (23) is a bit naïve about how everything works, but she is giving at her all. She doesn’t want to disappoint Jimmy.Jimmy (27?) is a widower, and as much as he is a kind soul, he is also emotionally closed off. What worked: The awkwardness of the characters. The setting, descriptions of farm life, and how difficult it would be to live without modern conveniences are spot on.I love that this author doesn’t shy away from bodily functions, and natural human smells during the apocalypse. Although, I could’ve done without the f@rt scene. What didn’t work: Gasoline goes bad. So the reality of these people driving around in ATVs, just wouldn’t happen after nine years. Get some horses or donkeys to travel.Girlie. This is the nickname he gives her. It is so off-putting, when they are having s£x.Despite my complaints, this series is incredibly fun to read. Kent infuses her characters with so many realistic qualities, insecurities, and raw emotions. Highly recommended for fans of post-apocalyptic romances. You must start this series with Last Light.

3.5 stars.
This one was simple and sweet. I have to admit I have fairly high expectations when it comes to this author, so perhaps I just expect too much. But it was still a good read.
