does this waterfall need a pump?

Yes, it’s basically a bucket. You need to buy & connect a pump & hose that pushes water into the base, & it then pours out the top.

Is this unit fed directly from the pump and does it need cleaning from time to tme?

Mine comes off let of filter and been in 3 months so no need to clean yet

How do i make the hole in the side?

You will need 20mm/25mm drill bit to drill the hole in the side so the plug fitting in for the pipe and a jubilee clip to whole the pipe in place
