No. They are separate and can be removed.

It sounds to me like the 70% IPA burns as good/better, and LONGER than the more expensive 90+% IPA, is that about correct if anyone has tried both?

Yes, I feel the 70% produces a smaller flame but burns longer while 90% isopropyl does the opposite. I had to keep refilling the basin as the flame went out several times from using the 90%

How much fuel do I need

It does t take fuel- it runs on standard isopropyl alcohol- that’s how you can use it indoors. It’s awesome!!! You just fill the reservoir with a small amount. Amazing product!!!!!
