How foreign policy is done
This book gives foreign policy practitioners a valuable and up to now unavailable framework to structure the execution of foreign policy in embassies around the world. I used it as the core text for a graduate and undergraduate course atthe Elliott School of International Affairs at the George Washington University in Washington, D.C.

A Must Read for Aspiring Diplomats
Diplomatic Tradecraft must be read and used by aspiring diplomats. It covers all the main aspects of diplomacy. Each chapter is written by well-known, highly respected practioners with many years of experience in each of these subfields. Until Diplomatic Tradecraft came out, there was not a good primer explaining how diplomacy really works. Nicholas Kralev, a veteran correspondent who covered the State Department for many years, used his extensive contacts to pull together an All Star group of American Foreign Service veterans to write each chapter. This book's applicability goes well beyond the American Foreign Service and would be a great use to any country that either has or aspires to have a professional foreign service. It should be the foundational book in the libraries of all countries which have a professional foreign service. Indeed, it should be must reading for any university course which aspires to teach how diplomacy really works.
