I’m very impressed with these monitor sensors I bought one of the black outdoor ones for my mailbox and it works wonderfully! It’s accurate very little false alarms. It’s especially great to detect automobiles coming into the driveway. It’s about 55 feet away from the nearest hub and doesn’t not have connectivity issues. I also bought the white ones to keep tabs around my exterior doors. They work just as good! I have them under a soffit or something covering it. I know it says for indoor but I’m giving a shot outdoors. I love how easy it is to connect to Apple home! It’s through Matter so setup was a breeze!

I ordered this as a replacement to an older (SMS1) device that is no longer supported by the latest revision of the Onvis iOS app. Improvements: 1) Plotting of the temperature and humidity log information works, and the graph format is improved over what was available with the older device/app version. The y axis scale is padded to a reasonable range outside of the min/max and the increased sampling frequency results in a plot that is easier to read. Also, the UI for selecting dates is improved. 2) The SMS2 device allows temperature calibration via an offset so the reading can match a calibration standard. I think this was missing with the SMS1, or at least I could never find a way to do this. At this point I've used the new SMS2 for only a couple of days, but so far it looks like a good upgrade.

Sadly, just not reliable or accurate motion or presence detection. Sometimes the motion is picked up nearly instantly, other times a minute (if it picks up at all). Sometimes it can indicate clear as a result, even within 5 feet of a target, despite trying with numerous positions and angles. The thermometer updates every 15 minutes, but was the most consistent in its measurements. I find the bright/dark detection too course-grained to be useful unless you are using it to confirm a nearby light is on or a room is receiving sunlight on a cloudless day. Battery lasted 4 months, always reporting around 80%.

Constantly drops the connection to home kit. Intermittent performance even when setting automations through the poorly designed app.

I like that it uses AAA batteries instead of stupid weird little disc batteries - those aggravate me to no end. I'm using it as a trigger for a heating pad inside an outdoor cat house for the neighborhood cat. In my smart home I have an automation setto turn it on when it's 40º outside and off when it's 42º. I bought a second one that I'll probably use for a low key weather station so I don't have to rely on the airport reading which is about 6º-8º warmer than the house.
