Q: Can the shield be raised/lowered?

Yes. The screen moves up and down to cover or clear your face without moving the ear muffs. It's a good quality face shield. The shield is screen type mesh material.....not clear plastic. It is meant to repel debris....not pathogens.

Q: How do you put together

Laughing at your question because I agree, it was not too terribly simple off of first glance. I put teh screen part on first and then looked closely at the picture of it assembled online and was able to figure it out. I was going to upload close ups for you but don't see a way to add photos.
