1980s martial arts triple. Jean Claude Van-Damme plays the feared Kung Fu bully 'Ivan the Terrible' in 'No Retreat, No Surrender' (1985). Against all the odds, the central character Jason (Kurt McKinney) is inspired by the ghost of Bruce Lee to get himself in shape and prepare for victory in the fight of his life against the notorious Ivan the Terrible. Loren Avedon stars in the sequel, 'No Retreat, No Surrender 2: Raging Thunder' (1989) as Scott Wylde, a young kickboxer and martial arts pro living in Thailand with his Vietnamese heiress girlfriend. When she is kidnapped by a Russian gang, Scott enlists the help of his friends Mac (Max Thayer) and Terri (Cynthia Rodrock) to rescue her. Plenty of martial arts action (punctuated with explosions and shootouts) ensues as they confront the kidnappers in the aptly named Death Mountain region. 'No Retreat, No Surrender 3: Blood Brothers' (1989) is the second sequel to the original film. When mobsters led by a wanted international terrorist kill a retired agent, his two sons - one a policeman, the other a martial artist - come together after years of estrangement to avenge his death. The subsequent confrontation leads to all manner of martial arts mayhem as the brothers work alongside each other to bring the killers to justice.

Motivational set
A really cool set of films from the 1980s. I was very impressed with some of the action sequences and the stories within them all vary. Despite being a Van Damme fan I must admit that I had more fun with the sequels starring Loren Avedon.

Classic
Classic movie, one of my favourite karate films. Great idea for the movie. Dialogues might be dull sometimes, but the fighting and training scenes are epic. If you karate fan, this movie is worth watching.

Fun
The first film does have van damme, but it hasn't aged too well. The second film is the best of the three. Cynthia Rothrock is cracking....If you enjoy a good beat em up, give this a go, but start on the second film first....

Real good box set
I first saw the first No Retreat, No Surrender in the 80s and I remember I thought it was good. The problem is that I thought al action movies were good back then. Often when I see many of the movies now the often suck.No Retreat, No Surrender however is still pretty good, the acting in all three movies is pretty poor but the action was surprisingly good. Part 2 and 3 was "new" to me but the same goes for them, pretty good action but poor acting. Considering the price I paid for it it was a real good deal and well worth the money. The first No Retreat, No Surrender is also the longest release.
