Solimar: The Sword of the Monarchs

Pam Muñoz Ryan is an excellent writer. Go save the butterflies

I read this story out loud to my children ranging in age from 5-15. They all loved it! It has lots of adventure and twists and turns that kept the kids begging for another chapter. They all loved Zarita- the little talking doll that Solimar keeps in her pocket. The story also piqued the interest in monarch butterflies.

I may re-read this again soon. It was that good. Pam Munoz-Ryan does not disappoint!

Good book

A colleague chose this book to incorporate into the curriculum. Hated it. Characters lack substantial believability and dragged on with the plot. Won't force my sixth graders to read it again, that is for sure.
