The Pencil

The Pencil is certainly an imaginative book! I bought this for our 5 year old daughter and we have had so much fun reading it. It is such a novel idea for a story. It has the same premise as Harold and the Purple Crayon, but in this story it is the pencil that draws his world around him. There is a lot more going on in this book than any of the Harold books we have read. We enjoy the pencil's adventures, the unique names and his problem solving skills. The illustrations are wonderfully interesting and have a lot of detail to explore from page to page. I am very happy that I stumbled upon this book. It has been a great addition to our children's book collection.

My daughter read this book at school, and well quarantine happened and she’s been dying to read it again. It’s a nice story, totally recommend it

This book is so creative and fun and funny with great illustrations. It became an instant favorite in our house and I love how original the story is. I have been telling all of my friends who have children about it and even purchased it for a friend who is a primary school teacher. I highly recommend this book and are so happy to have it as part of our collection!

One o those fun, silly books that young children will want to read over and over. There is a deeper commentary on art and creativity, but mostly, it is just fun.

This is such a fun, clever story. It quickly became one of my children's favorites. For people of any age that love to draw you will enjoy this story of a pencil that creates its own world and kids especially will love the diabolical eraser that tries to destroy it! This is easily one of the best newer children's stories I have read in a very long time!

Adorable book to get my children and school children into drawing and erasing.

I first saw this book when my daughter brought it back from school. Her teacher recommended it to her. That was three or four years ago. I loved it the first time I read it. God it from Amazon. A few days ago, my daughter dug it out from the bookshelf and read it. She said "it's a very good book." I'm glad she now enjoy the story.

Mon fils de 4ans ADORE ce livre! Il crée d'autres histoires oralement avec le crayon et le pinceau qui font d'autres aventures.My 4 year old son LOVES this book. He has created and imagined all sorts of other adventures that the pencil has drawn and that the paintbrush has painted. Maybe this one might become a favourite of your family too.

Beautiful book that encourages creativity

This book is something truly different - so simple and yet original in concept with lovely illustration and a story that is both sweet and sends a message. My son loves it, we love reading it to him. We have pretty much bought all the other Allan Ahlberg books based on how much we like this one, but the Pencil remains the firm favourite.
