Cute Game
I used to play this game when I was little, so when I found my old PlayStation I had to grab this game and play it again. I only really ever use it to play random races and breed horses, but it's cute anyway!

Excellent for Simulation Fans
If you like simulation games you will love this title. It is very fun and challenging. You won't just pick this title up and start running in the top level races. It will require time and patience. The game takes seconds to learn and weeks to master. The replay apeal is high. I have an xbox but I bought this game for my PSX because it is just that good.

Not good for ps3. Designed for original ps or ps2. My bad for ordering. I should have read more indepth in order to find a horse racing game designed just for ps3. Suggestions?

Not amazing, but not terrible either.
Gallop Racr is something of an anomoly in my opinion. The age group/regional demographic for watching horse racing is typically not the kind of group that would overlap with gaming. I mean, I'm sure there are folks out there that like horse racing games; I'm not one of them , but to each his own. I may not exactly like the game, but I can see that it's at least semi- competent at what it does. I would first like to point out that the horses themselves look amazing for a PS1 game. The move act and move like real horses and the texture work is really good(for a ps1 game). However I cannot say the same for everything else in the game. The jockeys look really dated, like they were made to be base models for a 32x game. The tracks are also kind of bland, but then again I kind of expected that, horse racing has to be kept simple for the animals sake as well as the jockeys; but thisis a video game, they could throw maybe a jump or 3 into a couple tracks. The sound isn't anything to write home about either. I noticed very few horse sounds during my play time with the game and the music that goes with the game really doesn't build up the tempo. The controls are very spot on however, guages are easy to understand and your horse have very definite limits to its stamina. Also the Colt/Filly/Mare/Stallion controls like a real horse would. Horses are 1200lbs of charging equine and they do not like to take on turns that are too sharp or generally move like a car would. They behave exactly like a real horse would, kind of slowly (Which is fine since all the racing is mostly stright lines anyhow). There is also a breeding system in the game, but sadly because of being short on time I really didn't get a chance to mess around with it. Probably my biggest gripe with the game is a lack of a tutorial mode to teach you things about gating, proper horse pacing, where horses liek to be in the pack and temperment. Things I kinda need to know to make a sound selection when buying my first horse. I also don't like how you can't just enter a race from the race selection and have to go back and jump around weeks until it pops up. I guess it's there for running multiple horses, but it's more fickle than it needs to be. I can't say I really enjoyed this game much while playing it off camera, but I realize that just becuase I find the idea of horse racing kind of boring doesn't mean that it's not entertaining to those that do and I at least understand the game is fair at what it does mechanically. Not my cup of tea, but maybe it is yours. Video review is here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vgmkNtcPkUo

Your Own Racing Stables!
It's simply the best. My Dad and I have seen the sun come up a many mornings playing Gallop Racer. All of my other games are just collecting dust since we've been running horses. I'm 12 years old, my dad's been taking me to the race track since I was a baby. We race a couple horses every year. The only diffences between the game and real racing is you don't win real money and you don't have to go out to feed and train. I would rate this game 100 stars. The horses look real they run like real horses, the jocks look and ride like the Hall of Famers. You start a career create your very own jockey (male or female) in your silks, buy a horse or two and start winning races. You can run in regular stakes or graded stakes, where the big boys run. It's just so real the better he is on the track, the better he is in the breeding barn. Breed that tripple crown winner and get your horse and jockey into the Hall of Fame and other great awards. If your husband enjoy horse racing or you want him and your son to spend some quality time together get them this game. Gotta go now, got one about to run in the Louisiana Derby.

The best racing game ever of ANY kind.
I'm a big horseracing fan and I follow the races even minus the betting. I'm also a veteran computer gamer meaning I have played countless driving and racing sims. The beauty of this game is the UNPREDICTABILITY of each race. Like in all classic racing sims from the old "Street Rod" to "Gran Turismo" the same formula is used here: Build, Race, Win, Upgrade - but with the intriguing twist of each horse's individuality. The game itself is not so simple. As owner/trainer you must be careful to place your horse in the proper race. As jockey it's up to you to give your mount every possible chance. Ultimately what will keep you entranced with this game is what you can't do: In other games we "Save" before each race and "Restart Race" if we lose, being wiser from the experience; here it will be a new race each time. I recommend this game to the problem gambler going "cold turkey", for his horseracing fix, as the action is SO real. To the uninitiated you will develop a deep understanding of why "The Sport of Kings" continues to fascinate royalty and commoner alike through the ages.

There is something for everyone in this game, for the racing enthusiast to the tactician. A great feature of this game is the ability to be able to breed your own horses - with a bit of patience you can breed and race a thoroughbred to match the great Frankel. Play head to head with friends or against the computer. With a huge selection of courses, grass and dirt racing, hundreds of horses and different racing styles - you will never get board of this game. I highly recommended game for everyone!
