Long Term Fire Starting Capability Plus a Few Tips
This 3-pack of Fresnel lenses are a good deal for the money and a solid product for survivalist, campers, hikers, or anybody needing a last resort method of lighting a fire on a sunny day. These are thin, flexible and about the size of a credit card and will slip into a wallet or go bag without weight or taking up space. A must have in my opinion. Fresnel lenses are a magnifying lens specialized designed to ignite dry tinder and start a fire, but you must have sunlight like any magnifying glass. An important aspect of these Fresnel lenses is that they are 4x magnification compared to many that are only 2x. The 4x will burn quicker and help you get the fire started. As in any fire starting venture, you want the driest tinder possible, and build a small tinder pile (or make a tinder bundle) and focus the light beam to start the burning process. Make sure you have dry twigs and larger woods on hand to build your fire.A handy thing to carry in your go-bag is a couple dry tea bags that can help assure you of something that will ignite in a less than perfect environment.Tinder bundles are compressed dry leaves and small twigs. You don't want them to be to loose, but not to tight either, because you want air to circulate through the bundle to aid the fire. In a survival situation, if you have access to dry tinder materials, you want to make several tinder bundles while the getting is good in case it rains. If you have some plastic, wrap them up to keep them dry, or put them in an article of clothing and stash them so they won't get wet.You can see many demonstrations on You Tube.Highly recommended!

Very good product! Waiting for a sunny day to try them out!
Great product. Came quickly and was at the bottom of the box with another order. These things are so slim you really have to be careful that they don't get lost in the shuffle if they are in with another order. All three of the lenses came without any deformities or real aberrations. A Fresnel lens is a flat lens made of a number of concentric rings with each ring slightly angled to focus the light to a certain spot. This allows for good magnification without the bulk of a traditional magnifying lens (if you already knew all this I apologize, but I certainly didn't). Anyway, these lenses are just as advertised, very slim, very strong, and very flexible. The flexibility is great so that you don't have to worry about cracking them very easily. The magnification does seem to be right around 4x like they say. The protective sleeves come with some nice inspirational quotes from some great minds and you can see the magnification in my photo. Sorry it's a little blurry in the background but the depth of field on my phone at that distance isn't so great. Anyway you get the idea of the magnification. You can also see the distortion at full magnification as the letters bend a bit on the outsides. So, I bought these as just an extra backup way to make fire in my emergency/bug out bags. It's nice to have something that doesn't rely on any fuel or that needs to stay dry (lighters and matches). I haven't tried to start a fire with them yet as it has been overcast since I got them (of course, right?!) but once the sun comes out I'll give it a shot and update. I'm pretty confident that on a full sun day you could start some tinder smoking pretty quickly. I'll find out.I try to make my reviews engaging and useful so if you though this review was helpful please click on the helpful button. Thanks!

Necessary for me to read small print
Had one like this that I carried in my purse and lost it. I was devastated until I found these! So handy when you are older and can't read small print as well as you used to. Don't know about the fire starting ability, I always carry a lighter!

5/5 ⭐️
Bought these so each member of my family can add it to their go-bags. Haven’t had a chance to use them yet, but they seem like they will work. I guess I’ll have to try them before an emergency situation. Small/compact and lightweight, perfect for backpacking.

Fire and eyes
My eyes aren't getting any younger. I keep one of these in my wallet and have the others stashed in various other places. They come in handy for reading small low contrast print. You can also start a fire with bright enough sun and the correct tinder. That can be a fun experiment to do with the kids. Well supervised, of course.

Good Magnifier, but not my first choice at starting a fire
First of all, the product is okay as a Magnifying lens and the cost is reasonable. What I don't like about the product, is that it is often very hard to light a fire with a magnifying lens. I have tested this myself and unless the sun is at a good angle, you are not going to get a fire from this device. You may brown the paper (or whatever you are trying to light), but that might be all you get. Besides, what if you need a fire when the sun goes down. This product is not going to help you in that situation.I would recommend the follow items first before you include this item in your survival pack: Good Magnesium Fire Steel, Disposable Lighter, Matches. Don't forget to pack some cotton balls. Cotton balls go up incredible fast and they are fairly cheap and light weight. When you add some petroleum jelly to the cotton balls, you get a hot start to your fire and the fire will last a little longer.I will carry this item in my survival pack because it is so light, but I doubt I will be trying to start any fires with it.

Great fire starter.
Amazing how well these work as solar fire starters when paired with the right tinder material. For the cost, size, and reliability these are a must have for your bushcraft fire kit, EDC, or bug out bag.
