Thrilling read, you won’t be able to put it down.
Having been a fan of the tv show for years, I thought it was about time I read the books. This was on offer so decided to start here (rather than with book 1), but knowing the show so well, I didn’t find an issue with references to past cases or character experiences. This story is so well written, has you looking at the case from all sides. Throughly enjoyable and read within 2 days. I couldn’t put it down. Can’t wait for the next book in the series which should be out later this year, while I wait, I’ll start with book 1 and carry on from there.

Good plot with twists to keep you reading
Not read a Tess Gerritsen for awhile and glad it was this one I decided to read. Powered through it in 2 days and enjoyed it overall. Not as good as The Surgeon books or The Silent Girl, but definitely better than Last to Die. The story unfolds murder by murder and keeps you guessing as to who is guilty. I like the way the personal lives of Jane & Maura are interwoven through the chapters to make the characters more real. And thank god Jane's mum has finally left her male chauvanistic husband! Oops plot spoiler but one that needed to be written!! If you like detective books and dont like all the unnecessary formulaic shockfest gore....Tess Gerritsen is worth a read. I would suggest reading the books in order but this one is one of the good ones in the series!

another riveting read from Tess Gerritsen
Once again I’ve been spellbound by the sheer brilliance of a crime novel. The plot is as usual skillfully woven through the chapters. I think I’ve now learned the pattern the author’s books follow but that hasn’t spoiled the magic. The characterisation makes Tess Gerritsen novels stand in a league of their own - she truly is the Queen of darkness.

Inspires me to read more by this author
First of all, I must admit that having only read the occasional instalment in Rizzoli and Isles series, I am not familiar with their back stories (of which, no doubt, the most salient details are recapped in this novel) and that this perhaps makes me less involved with the two protagonists than I would otherwise be. This may be a significant factor in my failure to award the fifth star - in which case the fault is entirely mine. As for other characters, I found Holly (the most significant person not formally involved in the investigation) annoying, sufficiently pig-headed for me to sometimes have to stifle the urge to yell at her for her utter stupidity - and totally believable. Full marks there.I certainly enjoyed the book's unusual premise and kicked myself for noting a connection between the murders early on without fully taking on board its significance. However (and this is difficult to explain without giving the game away), although I can see that within a wider population the modus operandi might work, for it to be applicable within a specific small group involves rather suspension of disbelief than I could accept - yet novelty in the crowded crime genre is hard to achieve, so all credit to Tess Gerritsen for trying something new.Although I spotted the murderer disappointingly early, I enjoyed watching the plot develop and wondering how the culprit would be caught. All in all, "I Know a Secret" has inspired me to return to the series and read more Tess Gerritsen in general.

Predictable
It starts really well in usual Gerritsen style, but I eventually found the story a bit samey! Especially Maura and Daniel **Yawn**

good mystery
I know the premise of the long-running Rizzoli & Isles tv show though I never watched it. But I was in the mood for a mystery and grabbed this book to read, having read the author's The Bone Garden.Jane Rizzoli is a detective and Maura Isles is a pathologist in Boston. They are both called to the scene of the murder of a young woman who is dead from no apparent cause and whose eyeballs have been scooped out and placed in her hand. The investigation leads to a case from twenty years previously, several more murders, and some very interesting twists and turns.I do like books where I get clues to decide on the murderer but keep getting new information that sends me off in a new direction. It's even better when I don't figure out the ending. I Know a Secret delivers on all counts. I was so sure I knew where it was going and I was completely wrong (well, I did get a few things correct but not the ending).I also liked the main characters. Jane is stubborn but thorough and Maura is a scientist who relies only on what the science can tell her. Frost is a fun sidekick, and the rest of the family characters add to the personal backgrounds of Rizzoli and Isles. The bad guys are remorseless and based on the McMartin child abuse trial in the 1980s. It's a quick and thoroughly satisfying read.
