Great fun. Can make several things with the kit
Loved making this with my grandson, but can be a bit fiddly at times

Good kit for older kids
My 10 year old was given this for Christmas. She spent a few hours fiddling away and made a very impressive monkey (looks more like a sloth) that climbs upside down along a rope. The set has good instructions that are clear to follow, the box turns in to a handy storage box for all the little parts and it comes apart fairly easily to rebuild your next creation. The only thing stopping it get 5 stars was the fact that the solar cell didn't work, although we just used a regular AA battery to power it.The box says for ages 8+, I think most children under 10 would need a little guidance or help but it's a great little kit for budding engineers.

Might need an additional power source!
I bought this for my niece. She lived it, but if you live in a place where there is little sun, you may wish to consider getting a lamp (halogen?) too to ensure it can still be powered.Ease of assembly can be challenging for some, so may need an adult to give them a hand. Building it though is definitely part of the fun.

Great project for school or home.
Brought this for a school project to demonstrate the principles of stem. The instructions were very clear and easy to follow. With so many different project to choose from it was great. Best of all is when we had finished with the project we could start over again and build something different. The price was a winner to.

Plastic airfix type product not metal that needs tools
Was expecting metal product similar to meccano like the photos suggest. When it arrived then found out it also required tools (cutting clippers and long thin screwdriver) to put together which was not indicated as not included. Is the equivalent of an airfix model not a meccano product which is definitely not clear in the product description. In light of the above I returned as unsuitable for what was intended. If you had no anticipation of what to expect then the product looks like it could be fun and reasonably challenging for a upper primary school child but definitely not the 18 months to 8 years noted in the product descriptions. (I did know that bit in advance but just pointing out the inaccuracies in case others were unaware)

Fab
The media could not be loaded. Fab product, lots of pieces to help kiddies learn. The hydraulic cylinders are fab, and the motor is powerful enough

8yr old loved it - needs bright light.
We built the "T-rex" - my 8yr old son needed a little help getting started but he was soon able to progress on his own happily using the mini side-cutters I'd found for him.He just asked for reassurance a couple of times and help taking bits apart a couple of times when he'd got things wrong. He is methodical, patient and good at following instructions but it still challenged him and he still needed help at first so 8 is a minimum age I think. We were all (toddler brother, twin sister and parents) impressed by the dinosaur when completed but it did need a bright light - it just worked (in the air) 15 cm from a 60W spot lamp - and walked and chomped when on a board in the garden - once the sun came out from behind a fluffy cloud - so bright direct sunlight is a must.
