The Cup of Our Life

Appreciated the bite sized, daily content. Made it easy to read each day, or yo catch up if you missed a few days. I initially liked the concept of the cup as there are many different ways it helps you to contemplate God’s infinite mysteries and mercies. But after the first couple weeks, I got tired of the cup references. So much overlap, each chapter felt like a rehash of the one before. Met in small groups for 30 min per week to discuss, and it just didn’t feel like there was enough content there for a rich discussion. Might appreciate it more if I were doing it solo, and didn’t have to have a dialogue about it. I would not recommend for small group.

The Cup of Our Life by Joyce Rupp has been a wonderful resource for the 2020 Lenten season. Approaching Easter this Sunday I have found that selecting a cup was ironic as several years ago in Canada after purchasing a gift box with two cups the box fell and one of the cups was broken. Saving the lone cup and placing a candle where the broken cup - my favorite - had rested I packed the box for our vacation trip for the during the month of March.As the Covid19 virus changed our landscape so The Cup of Our Life has changed the spiritual outlook during the six weeks of Daily Practice.

I selected this as a study in Lent, being half way through at this point I have decided to use it with a bible study group as soon as we finish the current study, I review a lot of books for this purpose and this one has moved to the front of the list, it is easy to do as an individual but converts well to a group study, the only issue I see is being able to get enough copies of it (was told it is out of print) Amazon has is available through privite sellers(I have used this methiod a number of times and have always been impressed at how well this works) jst hopeing there are enough copies out there for sale

I borrowed a copy of this book from the library and liked it so much that I ordered my own copy. I selected the hardcover edition (not used), but what I received was a used copy. This is not the only time that an item description did not match the item received from Amazon.

I have yearned for a Spiritual retreat during this pandemic. The author in a genuine/heartful/mindful process guides the heart/mind to a place where internal work can be done in a manner that's safe through the word of God/her experiences. I will take this journey again.

WOW--I love and appreciate Joyce Rupp sooooo much. She always shares herself and other stories to help me look more deeply, and this book gives so many tools for spirituality and fellowship in a group. I am in a group of women who meet once a week with 2 wonderful facilitators who also share their own experiences. Introducing ourselves and our cups of choice from our own homes helped us to immediately know each other better and set up an eagerness to grow and trust the process in this book. A gentle and healing journey into all that those issues that are only too easy to push aside and leave unresolved. This book can help to restore the inner peace of which the pressures of life can rob us, if we allow them.

If you are interested in developing your prayer life this is a very accessible and thoughtful book. It gives suggestions spanning 6 weeks using a visual aid of your favourite mug! The tone is kind and enabling. I would warmly recommend this for anyone keen to know God better.
