Didn’t need to program to my Philips Google tv , worked right after inserting batteries!

I picked up this replacement remote for my Philips Smart TV and it’s been a great surprise. It worked right out of the box with my Philips 4K UHD Android TV with zero issues. could be the tv but this didn't work, put batteries in it and tried it and it didn't work. We tried fresh batteries and old ones and nothing. could be the remote or could be the tv. I'm not sure as it wasn't my tv and just my grandfathers
