A splendid, not too academic book.
This book covers the many great civilisations that rose in the ancient Near East. Each chapter covers another fascinating civilisation and their art. This is an extensive volume, however, it's not too academic. It's written in a readable manner. There are clear photographs and useful maps throughout the book. The scope of the book is wide, with broad coverage of the many areas of ancient Near Eastern art history.A final chapter covers the suffering of ancient sites in the present day.Hardback with dust-cover, laced with colour images- a splendid book!

Mesopotamia: Cradle of civilisation
I Like the way the art of Sumer, Babylonia and Mesopotamia is introduced in this great and richly illustrated book, tracing the evolution in style and iconography over millenia. There are hips to The Beyond Babylonia show at Metropolitan museum of art and Chinese Ceramics from Yale UP. There are few sources or museums added to the individual illustrations, yet this is one of the books I immediately started reading when I got it in. Excellent and worthwhile
