Amazing sound - Not a Toy
I was looking for something not too expensive that would serve as floor monitors for my 4 piece acoustic band. I read all the reviews for the Stage-Gig speakers, and decided to take a chance and ordered 2 units. When I got them, I hooked them up to my mixing board, fired them up and WOW, for such small speakers, they put out a ton of sound, and the bass response is fantastic. I set them up with a dual RCA cable, male on both ends (Stage-Gig does NOT come with this cable, you have to get one separately, by the way), and plugged the power cord from the second one into the back of the first one, per included instructions, thus requiring only one outlet to power both.Because I am running the output out of a mixing board into the Stage-Gigs, I can adjust the EQ settings for a great natural sound - the speakers themselves do not allow any such adjustments.Well, I was so impressed, I ordered two more. Not sure if this product will be available in the future when I might need more, so I now have two as backups... the price is ridiculous, so it's a no brainer. If I had gotten "real" floor monitors, I probably would have had to pay twice as much for just 1, never mind 4.The only thing I do not like is the big bold white lettering on the front of the mesh grill! I have solved that with a small bottle of flat black enamel paint from the local hobby store (the original paint is not flat or glossy - something in between. But I didn't want something shiny, so flat works wonderful. I just painted the entire metal grill.) Now the speakers look great and I am very happy to have a set of 4 great sounding floor monitors for the band!I would buy these again in a heartbeat if any of the 4 failed, they are that good. Definitely NOT toys.

Not Bad If You Can Find One (& Find One For Under $50)
My first experience with this type of versatile product was the legendary Polk Hitmaster. I eventually needed more boxes, but the Polk was discontinued, so I bought six RM3010s (which have also now been discontinued). I don't use these for gaming, but rather to connect to mixers for small PA or karaoke systems (or connect an MP3 player for outdoor parties). With 40 watts, one Altec Lansing gets moderately loud, but is inadequate in volume for my purposes. However, hook up two for a total of 80 watts & it's a different story. Two RM3010s in stereo seem more than twice as loud as one in mono and sound much better. Compared to the Hitmaster, the Altec's bass is not quite as strong and treble is very bright, but overall they're good-sounding, well-constructed units and a great value for under $50. Buy them while you still can, and buy them in pairs.

They're not just cute
I actually purchased a pair of these to use as monitors for low-volume club & coffeehouse gigs (I'm a keyboard player). I already had a collection of RCA-1/4" dual cables, so interfacing them with the small PA we use was a snap. Being self-powered and having pass thru connections eliminated the need for my much larger mixer/amp/DI rack and they weigh slightly less than my passive Fender 1270s. They're not nearly as powerful, but that wasn't the point. I've looked around at portable keyboards with internal speakers and pretty much everything under $300 used a headphone jack as an output - cutting off the speakers when used with a PA. For less than a hundred dollars and maybe an extra fifteen minutes of set-up, I can use one of my pro keyboards at a semi- or non-pro event. They are not loud, but they have a nice, full sound that helps make up the difference when you would normally only hear the mains. I tested then with a Yamaha S30, and they were perfectly clean turned up all the way. During an actual gig with my Roland A-70, I managed to get them to break up a little when I was hammering the piano patch - other than that, they made a world of difference over the previous gig at the same venue with no monitors. Coupled with a small mixer, you could have a pretty sweet low-powered monitor system for events where volume is an issue!

Buyer BEWARE: Not of product - of retailer!!!
I purchased this product for my husband for Christmas. Upon opening Christmas morning - he realized that this was not what he wanted, and so we contacted the company to return it. The salesperson was helpful - a bit short - but whatever, it was after Christmas and I'm sure she was having a bad day. HOWEVER - I was only given a $35 credit for the product, even though I paid $55!!! I have contacted the company through Amazon AND directly and no one has gotten back to me in over a month. If this is exactly the product you want - then I'm sure it's fine. But if there is a chance you might want to return it - BEWARE! You may not get your full return amount back.
