I had a different brand St Francis medal for on my dog's collar, but I noticed it discolored my dog's neck, and then the little hook broke. When I went to solder the hook back together the whole thing, hook and medal, melted! So I had to hunt for one that was made better. This medal came in a nice little gift box with the chain and the medal in separate zip-lock bags. I only needed the medal, so the chain went in my jewelry box. This medal is so much nicer quality than the melty one I had. It is real stainless steel with a very good quality etched image. I'm very happy with this. And now my dog's white chest is white again and no longer gray.

The chain broke more easily than expected and the imprint of Saint Francis was faint.
I found that the chain broke more easily than I would have expected. Also, the Saint Francis medal that I received was rather faint. For the price, the Chain was attractive, but perhaps not strong and the Saint Francis metal itself seemed sturdy, just not imprinted well. I would not recommend purchasing this necklace as a gift or for everyday wear.
