Very good radio fir a very good price
This is a very good kitchen radio indeed, very high quality for the price, weighty and substantial with a decent quality speaker that has a 1w RMS rating. This means that it can go reasonably loud without any distortion, and because it is a good speaker in itself the sound quality is very good indeed, not tinny, but with a nice intermediate tone which is otherwise nonadjustable.Unlike a lot of radios, or any equipment today, this hasn't suffered a cost-cutting exercise of not including a mains lead, and as this was to be the only power supply method that this radio was to utilize it was a necessity to have one supplied. It is also a standard lead with the figure-of-eifght connector, not one of those dumb ones that have a built in transformer. It's extremely simple to operate. There's a three-position switch above the very large and clear frequency window, the positions of which show a day-glo orange marker next to or under the function that represents its position. Put the switch all the way to the left and the radio is OFF. One click to the right it is on FM, and all the way right AM.Tuning is done with the obvious knob on the side, it is not jerky, it is smooth and stiff enougfh to be able to tune accurately, so it's extremely easy to tune, it also has a red LED that tells one when it has reached the maximum quality (signal strength) of tuning for any channel. This radio successfully picked up BBC Radio Wales, which is something that I was barely able to do with my old one - ever, and it picked it up with a strong enough signal to light that LED, This means that the aerial and the components inside are very good too.Volume is controlled by a knurled wheel on the side and it also had a headphone jack.

Panasonic 2400DEB-K - Basic but functional - A good buy - Battery and Mains powered
While it loses out to DAB in terms of the stations available it has a decent battery life from 4 AA batteries. Battery life is given as around 50 hours but I have not been using this long enough to confirm. The DAB radio I have eats 4 AAs in a matter of 3 to 4 hours. The Panasonic uses a standard mains lead which is much cheaper and easier to replace than a dedicated low voltage power supply should it be lost or damaged. The reception on both FM and AM is better than my DAB radio, (that was not cheap). It has a ear piece socket that appears to be mono only. There is no Bluetooth, USB input pre-sets or station identification (RDS). It has a sturdy carry handle that can be used as a stand. It has a good size speaker which provides reasonable sound quality. A tuning light shows when you have a good station lock. This radio is a modern equivalent of a 1940s valve radio but with up to date circuitry. Unlike TV the benefits of a digital radio system are not overwhelming. Hopefully the UK government will continue with analogue radio transmission. If your a prepper this could be a good choice for receiving emergency broadcasts. The proposed 2023 UK emergency alerts system relies on the mobile phone network. Which is fine as long as its still working in your area. And assuming it ever gets completed.

The on-off is combined with the am-fm slider
Having been out to buy batteries, I then could not find the on switch. It is not on the volume control, but combined with the AM-FM switch. The short slider has three positions, off, FM in the middle, and AM. So quite possible to overshoot FM, or alternatively to switch to AM when you mean to switch off.I could not take it away from my mother, so live in hope. It brings in Radio 4 on FM clearly in a poor reception area; and if you want run it on mains and switch off at the plug it can stay on FM.

Excellent quality from Panasonic!
I bought my first Panasonic radio over 60 years ago and have not bothered with owning a radio for about 40 years. I purchased this Panasonic after watching a comparison on Youtube between this model and another Panasonic which was nearly twice the price, this was the pick of the two. When I went to unpack the parcel I was surprised at the weight, I assumed that the batteries must be included not so the weight is in the speaker which told me that this is going to be a good sound and so it was/is, really deep sound from such a small radio. The speaker is approx half the size of the unit. I also like the fact that when the tuner is spot on the station a Red light lights up. I am really pleased with this little radio would recommend it to anyone.

Good radio
This radio does it's job well. I'm satisfied with the battery and AC powered features. The volume is excellent and tuning dial is ergonomically efficient. Good buy, generally. I highly recommend.

Decent quality at a sensible price
Would prefer the on-off switch to be separate from the am-fm switch but it works fine. Tunes in to stations well and sounds better than expected. Works off the mains to save batteries which is a surprisingly good feature at this price.
