Exceptionally Good
Wow! This is a great set. Right off the start, this is not a fancy set by any means, the pens are made of light plastic and they feel light. However ...There's absolutely no shortcomings or issues using the pens or the ink. I'm not a calligrapher, however, I use ink and fountain pens on daily basis to draw and sketch as I'm an artist. The included 66 ink refills are just great and are a good stock to last for a while. The included 8 pens provide a great range of line qualities and styles. The ink flows effortlessly through the nibs and the nibs just glide over the page, whether drawing straight lines (in both directions), curves, with light pressure or heavier pressure. They are just quite responsive.I was absolutely delighted to see that each pen has a converter (piston mechanism). This means that not only I have to refill with the same cartridges, but I can use my own stock of ink with these pens. This is by itself is a huge advantage over other sets that I have. I tend to draw a lot with a specific sepia ink, which is not included in this generous set of refills (it has 13 different colors).I also like that each pen has a different color. I set my own scheme of identifying which pen has which ink color and now it is quite easy to reach out for the correct pen. Finally, the box itself, even though again, it is nothing fancy at all, however, I found it to be useful to keep the set intact and not put it in my drawing toolbox. It closes nicely and I like to tuck those pens into place, and they are easy to grab. The only observation that I have is related to the included ink colors. I find some of the colors not to my taste, however, this is really a personal choice and doesn't affect me rating this as five stars. This is a really nice gift idea.

Pen Set
This Calligraphy pen set is quite nice! This is my first time owning/using a set like this so there was a bit of a learning curve, but it wasn't so bad! First, I followed the given directions on how to apply the ink refills. For the most part, it was easy enough, however, there were a couple that no matter how hard I pressed, I could not get it securely attached. I will say, they give you a ton of refills which include many different colors. You even get a whole box of black ink, which I can see lasts quite a while! I let the pens sit nib-side down for a few minutes and most of them were ready to go (a couple were a bit more stubborn so I gave them a bit of a tap and left it again for a few moments which seemed to do the trick.) I love the feeling of the pens, the texture on them is lovely. Each pen comes with a different-sized nib, which you can switch between pen colors. I then tested each one out, and was quite impressed! The thicker nibs were fun to use and were some of my favorites. The two I didn't care much for were the brush tip and the little bent-tipped one. Maybe it's my lack of ability, but the brush tip looked messy and didn't seem to hold enough ink. When using the bent tip, it seems that you have to write extremely slowly for a nice amount of ink to flow. I noticed that when I wrote faster, the ink flow was lacking big time. Again, maybe just a user error, but there were no instructions on how to properly use each of these pens so I was sort of "winging" it.Though they give you an abundance of refills, each pen also comes with its own piston converters where you can add your own ink. I thought that was really cool and I look forward to purchasing ink to test that out.I was once again impressed by the lack of bleed-through. I used quite a thin sheet of paper to test each pen/nib on. Of course, the wider the nib, the more the ink flows and not a single spot bled through. Wow!!I am quite impressed with this pen set and I look forward to practicing calligraphy with them!

Perofrms to its price point.
This isn't an awful starter set by any means, but it has what I think of as "starter set syndrome." For one thing, it tries to have and be a few too many things; for another, it's doing that while trying to stay at a reasonable price point. While nothing in this set is awful, none of it is particularly distinguished either. The brush tip is close to useless, while the other nibs are merely competent. The ink, likewise, is just okay. The pens' quality is fine, but I've used both better and worse. Here's the bottom line: if it's your first time with calligraphy, this isn't a bad way to get your feet wet. If you're an experienced calligrapher or illustrator, you're likely to want better supplies than this. Sometimes there's something to be said for slowly building a curated collection with higher-quality stuff. It takes longer, but the upshot is that you have something you can grow into that'll still serve you well as you advance in your craft.
