Yes, it has a "best before date of approximately 6 months. I am still using this product, even though I bought it over a year ago. Still doing its job well.

Will this work for halting fermentation of beer?

It won't actually stop fermentation itself. All Potassium Sorbate does is prevent yeast from multiplying, so it doesn't stop an established fermentation. It stabilises wine by preventing the yeast from multiplying after going dormant.

Is this same as adding finnings

No, this doesn’t clear your brew. It’s stops the fermentation process. Use it before bottling so you can be certain fermentation won’t continue, which could cause your bottles to blow.
