Onkyo A-9030 Stereo Hi-Fi Amplifier - Black

My beloved NAD 3020i died suddenly a month or so back after almost 20 years of solid service. After managing to get an old spare amp working, but not sounding great, I decided I needed to plump for a proper replacement. A quick scan of the web kept throwing Onkyo up as a good option if I didn't want to spend a fortune, and so I ended up with this 9030.My main music source is records, mainly old records so I needed an amp with a built in phono stage. I have this connected to a mixer and two Soundlab direct drive decks (cheap Technics copies) with Shure carts and styluses.I connected this up using my existing 4 way speaker cables, but when I played a record through the mixer it sounded incredibly distorted and I initially thought it was faulty. Then I suddently realised that it wasn't faulty at all, but rather the sound being input was too loud. So after realising that I no longer needed to crank up the volume on the mixer and its settings in order to get it sounding reasonably loud through the amp (as I had to with my previous one) I almost halved the volume on the mixer and turned down the gain etc. and the sound started to come through and wow, it sounds amazing. I use the direct sound button, and tweak the sound via the mixer (with bass, mid and high range dials) and I can really fine tune the sound now in a way that I couldn't using my old amp. And the power is IMMENSE! I'm using this in my living room with some big floor standing speakers and I now have my mixer at about 45% and my amp on about number 3 and it BOOMS out. I'm sure I could easily blow the windows out if I wanted to (and I don't by the way).I should also add that I bought mine as an Amazon warehouse deal and it was only £189 instead of about £230. The box had been resealed but it's absolutely perfect and comes with the instructions and bits and bobs. Absolute bargain and I'm now getting really excited listening to different types of records as I'm hearing things and details that I simply couldn't hear before. Absolutely 100% recommended.

Bought this amp to replace an old Arcam alpha 2 which i'd had for 20 years.I mainly play records(vinyl) and the moving magnet stage on this amp is really good.I've had the amp for about a month or so and i use it everyday,and it handles everything very well.I use Q acoustic 3020 speakers and a project carbon espirit turntable.I would recommend using the direct button so as to bypass the tone controls,it gives a cleaner sound and just enough bass so you get the best sound out of your records(in my opinion).Beautifully made and sturdy with an excellent all round sound from Sludge to dub,i can't fault it.:)...A little tip i learned from Youtube about using banana plugs for this amp..At first glance it seems as though the terminals are too small but if you pop out the middle part of the plastic speaker terminals(with a hairclip or screw) then the banana clips slot straight in no problem...Great amp and worth every penny.

Very competent and well made and sounds good - the one supplied to me has A and B plus A+B speaker connections but does NOT have an OPTICAL connection. This differs from another review. If there was a photo of the rear of the unit in the description it would be helpful. ONKYO have more than one version, I believe the European version does have an optical connection.

Very impressed with the onkyo A9030 amp it gives out good bass and overall a well balanced sound, what i like is it dont sound to posh it delivers bass and treble in a raw form just what i like and it also has a sub woofer out and the option of four speakers with two sets of speaker terminals with bare wire connection...I use this amp every day my tv runs through it and it sounds great and not had any problems at all...It sounds better than the Yamaha s501 which i returned that sounded really flat..

This Amp surprises time after time with its power and tone and with addition of what formally used to be called the loudness button this Amp punches well above its price point to the extent of asking yourself why pay more and probably get less, its that good, friends who have I made listen to this amp and some of whom have far more expensive equipment begrudgingly nod there heads in approval, which is the best sign that its great bit of kit.Again why pay more for less.

Excellent quality amplifier - sounds absolutely brilliant with my KEF iQ7ES speakers. Did invest in some good quality speaker cable to help with delivering clean bass performance, as well as splitting the bass and treble connectors using both A and B speaker terminals. An excellent product and substantial discount made this Onkyo amplifier a really good investment.

sound quite mellow I found it under powered for my q acoustics 3050s however decided to connect bookcase speakers and sound is far better. i recommend looking into matching before purchase

Bought this product do that I could convert to digital storage of my CD collection - & play back through the connecting jack point ....... Pleased with the sound & build quality - suits my needs perfectly .....
