Taste | With the first sip of Fernet-Branca, the natural bitter taste of Fernet Branca and its herbs presents itself to the palette. There is an unexpected softness as the initial taste settles and the bitter taste becomes almost tannic. Sweeter, more delicate notes of plants and flowers come through, whilst the bitter taste lingers in the background. |

A classic herbal taste / mix it with Coca Cola
I have purchased this before and had it as a digestif in Italy and found it very strong and enjoyable. However, after a trip to Argentina I have discovered that they mix it with Coca-Cola like fanatics and I became hooked. The mint and bitterness combined with the sweet Coca-Cola is the perfect summer refresher and if you look passed the weird scum it makes in the glass, it is a nice way to sip a summers afternoon away.On its own, I enjoy it but only in moderation! It helps with stomach issues after a long or greasy meal and I think it is worth the money to have a bottle tucked in the cupbaord for special occasions.Mixed or neat, definitely a great drink if not an acquired taste. But it is certainly a taste I have acquired!

An Acquired Taste...
Love this stuff, having discovered it on ships. I've never suffered from sea-sickness but a wee dram can definitely pick you up when a storm is raging and leaving you a bit tired. It's basically like Jägermeister without the sugar, in terms of taste, although that doesn't do justice to it's effects, and Jägermeister is no substitute for Fernet Branca. It's a proper bitter digestif made from a gazillion exotic and potent herbs, roots & barks, originally devised in the 19th century to fight cholera if I'm not mistaken. It's widely popular outside the UK, especially after heavy meals or heavy nights, and it definitely works to calm the effects of both. It's basically the healthiest 40% spirit you can drink! A little goes a long way and I fully expect this bottle to last me at least 6 months. The taste can take some getting used to, although a few drops of creme de menthe go a long way to making it more palatable for novices; also, a milder minty version called "Branca Menta" is produced by the same firm. Chilling it well also softens it's bite. It's an ideal gift for somebody who claims to have tasted/drunk everything, or who appreciates good food but sometimes struggles afterwards.Only quibble is that it's readily available in many Italian/Spanish/German supermarkets (and the on the corresponding Amazon sites) for about 15 Euros, whilst we have to pay almost twice that. Looked at ordering it from Amazon Germany but postage also 15 Euros, so no advantage there...

Amazing
This is my 4 time purchase and I never get weary of buying it. It does what it says in the bottle. It really helps my heartburn and indigestion. It has a very bitter taste which maybe makes it so effective. I can taste all the herbs! To me, it is more like a natural herbal medicine. I love the strong taste. It even helps me to sleep well. I just love it. Highly recommended.

An acquired taste but great.
I love this stuff but my wife hates it. 60ml with 250ml of coke and you have a close to perfect drink. For the love of all things do not drink it like this if you haven't tried it before, the flavour overpowers EVERYTHING and makes coke lose its sweet taste. This is my go to drink but I really don't think it's for everyone.

Great Italian Bitter
I drink this straight after a heavy meal as a digestif, it works well, probably due to peppermint in it. I have also drank it the Argentinian way (Salud!) and it is rather compelling, and the flavours, sweetness of the cola etc is balanced really well by the bitterness of the Fernet. I don't drink fizzy drinks like Coke much though for health reasons, otherwise I would drink more this way. Overall a great digestif, and very unique, but is an acquired taste so try and sample it before if you can.

Very unusual taste
Well, this drink is definitely an acquired taste. It reminds me of the time I first tried Benidictine 45 years ago. I found that unpleasant but now it is my favourite. Spirit. This drink is nothing like Benidictine. My first impressions are that it seems to have a bit of an aniseed taste with faint cloves. I can see that it is a digestif for the stomach, an after meal sipper. Not one to take to a party. Would I buy it again? I will only be able to answer that when I have finished the bottle but I do have expectations this one will grow on me. Definitely worth trying.

Fernet Branca
My favourite divestivo. To complement a heavy or rich meal this drink goes down smoothly and settles the tummy well. It tastes so good to, though this is possibly subjective. It is a shame that it is so expensive.
