If you're on the fence, just go for it. Amazing tool while relactating.
This is an insanely useful tool if you're willing to work through the feeling of not having enough hands and dripping around while you figure it out. [Unless you pinch it off, it will keep dripping, but it's a slow drip and babies can be messy feeders anyway so just chill on the dripping and feeling like you don't have enough hands.] It's ultimately worth it if you need it. You can use this to keep your baby interested in the boob even when they're 99% bottle-fed, but it also allows the baby to drain whatever supply you have to give without them getting frustrated and giving up early, so it's great for relactation purposes. The tube is thin like angel hair pasta (awesome) and uber flexible and soft so it really exceeded expectations there. But it's hyper-thin so you have to be gentle and make sure you don't pop a hole in it whenever you pinch off the flow. We've used it 4 times in 2 days and will keep using it until it falls apart--no problems so far. They give you a tab with a wedge cut in in and if you're not careful it can cut the tube. Planning on scooting the tab down so it's as close to baby's face as we can manage, that way if I pop a hole in the tube I can just cut that part off and scoot the flow management tab up until the whole thing is too short to use anymore.

If ur a new Breastfeeding mom & the baby needs supplementation this is the BEST to protect BF
This is not an item easy to use out of the box for anyone, BUT when ur taught how to use it efficiently, it is the BEST product IMO for protecting breastfeeding (BF) & the BF latch. Bad reviews say the catheter tubing doesn't stay bc it's flexible & it's frustrating. That's true & one reason a person needs to be taught how to use this. I was a Post Partum RN & Lactation Educator Counselor & once I was taught by an expert how to use it & saw the effect on babies, I LOVED using it. We use flexible tape & tear a piece off the roll & then tear that piece in 1/2 lengthwise & position the tape across the tubing just above ur nipple/areola (above is relative to where the baby's mouth/nose are in relation to your breast). The baby takes the nipple/areola when u bring baby onto a deep latch & when baby is BF, the supplementation occurs at the same time as BF. Saves time, saves pain, saves latch, saves milk production (bc deeply latched baby is best at getting milk out & stimulating milk production)! We didn't boil it in the hospital; we used warm sudsy water to clean all the parts, air dred, & reused.

love it
I have a medical condition that prevents me from making a full milk supply. This device is what has made nursing at all possible for me. I have used it with all 5 of my babies. It is not easy to use at first, but with practice, it gets easier. I would recommend getting the baby to the breast before s/he is crying, so that you can both be more patient. I would also recommend having a lactation consultant that is VERY familiar with this teach you how to use it. The tube has to be in the exact right place to work. I have found that it works better than the full size SNS and is less cumbersome to use. I also break off the clip that comes with it and string the black ring around some elastic. Then I tie the elastic to make a necklace that slides easily over my head and wear it around my neck. That also makes it less cumbersome. You will also need a roll of first aid paper tape to tape the tube to your breast. This only comes with one strip. I will say that it is easier for bigger babies to use. My last one was 9 and 1/2 lbs and he did great with it. But there were still times that I had to latch him on 3 or 4 times before we got the tube right. Again it is best to start the feeding during the early hunger signs like sucking rather than crying. I use this for the first 2 weeks after birth when you should be in bed anyway, then I switch over to nursing and topping off with a bottle when I have to get up and start being mom to everyone again. I love this product and am so grateful that it exists because I would never have been able to get my babies hooked on nursing without it.

Avoid it if you can. Save yourself the frustration and heartache of this terrible invention and just pump for stimulation!!
This thing is absolutely the biggest pain in the butt. Any woman who has to supplement her baby is already incredibly frustrated and emotional. Now add this incredibly difficult to use contraption into the picture and a poor mother is ready to lose her mind. I could think of so many ways that this could be made better. I tried one with my son 6 years ago and was highly disappointed to find that they have not changed or improved at all in that time. It is absolutely impossible to use this thing the way it is instructed. Trying to get this tube in the babies mouth is the biggest test of sanity you will ever experience. The tube gets distorted and is so soft and flexible. It isn't rigid enough to stay put when you try to latch the baby. Thank God I read a review where a women suggested attaching it from the under side of the nipple. That is the ONLY way I could get it to somewhat work. Even still I had to tape it almost to the tip of the nipple because as mentioned earlier-- it kinks EASY! So now, my baby is not sucking or sealing appropriately because there is tape in her mouth!! The purpose ends up defeating itself. Not to mention that it took nearly 45 minutes to get 2 oz into my baby with this. Twice as long as a bottle. Mothers DESERVE better than this!! Either improve this worthless crap Medela or STOP selling it!! What a terrible thing to do to a desperate mother. Honestly ladies, please don't put yourself through trying to use this thing. Just save yourself the sanity and pump!! Oh-- and I forgot to mention.. even if you happen to be able to get this thing to work by doing the things I mentioned--its a 2 person job--and both of you will want to bang your heads against a wall!

Helps Build/Maintain Supply & Bond with Baby
These SNSs allowed me to breastfeed my baby for six months, and for that, I will be forever grateful. We would have gone longer, but had to switch to a hypoallergenic formula that stunk and tasted so bad, she couldn't tolerate eating it slowly and we eventually gave in to bottles full-time. I tried the Medela long-term larger size with the double tube and, for some reason, found it very difficult to get liquid to go through it at just the right rate, no matter how I tinkered with the tube sizes and flow. My IBCLC said she has heard the same complaint from a number of women. Although these little guys need to be replaced about every week and half (based on our usage), and I ended up having to refill 1-2 times per feed once she got bigger, these were still my preferred feeding device. The cap does fit on a standard sized bottle, but I noticed it drips a little. We definitely had a learning curve, and I wanted to chuck this across the room a lot in the beginning, but once my little one and I got the hang of this, it was just second-nature. A lot of women don't tape the tube to their breast, but I found it much easier to use surgeon's tape so it wouldn't spray everywhere when she came unlatched. I ordered a ton of these and they all came in perfect condition in their sterile packaging.

Buy this before a Lact-Aid
I purchased this because I was not sure my baby was receiving enough nourishment. EASE OF USE AND BABY CONCERNS My three stars is based predominantly on this category as you will find that I have favorable comments in the other categories I've evaluated. In my experience, it was exceedingly frustrating to get this hooked up and fed into my baby's mouth. I tried hooking it onto a bra and I tried tying it onto a string hung from the top of our bed's headboard and I tried having my husband hold the tube while I tried to feed the baby. I had a hard time getting it into a good position to use it. I also had an extremely hard time getting it into my baby's mouth. I tried this both with a shield and without a shield (a shield is a separate product that is like a silicon nipple the mother can wear). I could not get the tube to stay in the baby's mouth (with or without the shield in between) and then get the clamp opened to allow milk to flow through. My baby would move his mouth to spit the tube out. It seemed to really annoy him. We eventually scrapped using a supplemental nursing system and tried other non-mechanical strategies e.g., herbal teas; relaxation; double pumping after each feeding; consuming galactagogues like bone broth and kombucha. VALUE I highly recommend that anyone considering a Lact-Aid or other type of supplemental system first get this starter system. The price difference is considerable and if you have the experience I had, you will be relieved to have only spent $17 and not $80 or more. It can really be used more than once, making its cost per use even more attractive. ASSEMBLY Read the instructions...I found that the assembly was not intuitive. It is not difficult, but not something that you can necessarily figure out on your own. CLEANING This was surprisingly easy to clean--you basically squeeze water through the tube to clean the product. Careful cleaning will allow you to use this multiple times. Overall, I think this is a valuable purchase if you are not sure that your child is receiving enough nourishment directly from breastfeeding and are considering purchasing a supplemental system. I gave it three stars because I found using it a little difficult and, as mentioned, my baby hated it--but I highly recommend you try this out before purchasing something like a Lact-Aid that is more expensive. Also talk to your pediatrician or lactation consultant to find out if there are non-mechanical options for you like herbs.

Lifesaver!
We received one of these from our lactation consultant to use while my daughter learned to latch. She taught us how to use it and it was super easy. You just have to make sure everything is in place correctly and then you flip the bottle upside down, squeeze the bulb and squeeze again to prime the tubing. The little crack in the plastic piece on the tubing will hold the milk in place if you slip the tubing in there. The tape is to tape it on your breast to align it perfectly with your nipple. Then you can you use the clip around the bottle to hold it somewhere while you feed. Once the baby latches, you can unclip the tubing and if you see bubbles in the milk that means your baby is sucking the milk. If she feels the plastic, I just slip the tubing in after she starts sucking. If you have everything in place, it won’t leak. But everything has to be tight! I used it, rinsed it, and placed it inn my sterilizer. I got a plenty of uses out of it this way! And my daughter was able to gain weight and keep her energy while learning to suck. And avoided having to take a bottle in the first 6 weeks and deal with nipple confusion. This was the fastest way for me to replace the one given by our LC and continue using.will keep purchasing whenever my daughter and milk supply needs a boost!

Only okay
The clip on the first one I ordered broke before I even got to use the system but Amazon sent a replacement. The clip isn't very strong. You have to make sure you assemble it properly otherwise it can leak everywhere. The tubing is very soft so if you're used to the SNS tube, you may find this more difficult to use as you have to place it before they latch as it is not firm enough to slip between the breast and the babies lips.
