Starter Men's Mesh Shorts, Amazon Exclusive

These are good, basic shorts for workouts or lounging around. They are pretty standard style workout shorts with outer fabric that is mesh with small oval holes and a light inner fabric to keep them from being see-through. Nice and breathable. Not super light material but not heavy either.I also own similar shorts by Russel Athletic. Compared to the Russel shorts, these work better for me because they have a bit longer inseam... which is a better fit for us taller guys. The inseam on the Russel shorts is listed as 9" but is slightly less than that. The inseam on these Starter shorts, I believe are listed as 10" but are actually around 9.5"Aside from the longer inseam, the Russel shorts are a bit better otherwise: slightly softer material, and the pockets are deeper on them. On the Starter shorts I would be worried about keys/phone falling out when sitting because they're on the shallow side. Also the drawstring on the Starter shorts are a thin strap material and is a bit short, where the Russel shorts have a slightly strechy cord material which seems a bit more robust and a tad more comfortable. Really, most the differences are pretty minor except for the pockets.Sizing seems spot on with these shorts too (wheras the Russel shorts run a bit big).Overall decent shorts and hard to go wrong for about 12 bucks. To sum up, if you're OK with slightly shorter length shorts, Russels are a little bit better overall, but if you want a bit more length, these work just fine.

I have no clue what happened here, but these shorts (size men's medium), are tiny! I had my 10 year old son put them on and they fit him! Id return them if they didn't fit him, but luckily they do. I have one picture of the black shorts I ordered on top of another pair of men's medium shorts. Quite a difference. I also have a picture of my son wearing these so-called men's shorts.... I definitley did not receive any men's shorts!!!

These are much more see-through than the pictures would have you believe. Good quality material and good shorts overall, but people will be able to see your underwear. As long as that doesn't bother you then these are great shorts.

First off, the feel of these shorts is very nice. Sizing is accurate. Now the problems. First is the draw string. It’s too short and doesn’t pull the waist in enough. Definitely a big concern. Second is the pockets. They are very shallow. Not very well suited for carrying your wallet or phone. Even your car keys can fall out when seated. Won’t purchase this again.

I have Starter shorts going back 10 years. They were wonderful. The waistband on these is about 2/3 as wide and very flimsy, the drawstring is less than half the width and you can only pull it about an inch and a half, plus the ends are just folded over, it will get lost in the waistband, trust me. Finally, the material is basically see-through.Returned all three pairs I bought.

I've bought Starter shorts in XL before. This is not XL, more like XLT. They must have changed their manufacturing because these are for a tall, skinny dude. A little tight in the waist and long past my knees. My other Starter XL shorts fit fine. Also, these do indeed have an inner liner. So apparently, they are now making them with a liner, which adds more to my disappointment. These shorts used to be perfect for Summertime wear now they are a little stifling. I REALLY liked how they made them before. Now, not so much. Sometimes, change is not for the better. When you have something good, leave it alone! Guess I need to find another brand. Oh, and I WAS going to buy another pair, good thing I didn't. I'd be DOUBLY disappointed. Ugh. I hate shopping around.EDIT: Changing my review to 2 stars. These shorts are very hot, the liner is terrible and I may very possibly send them back. If you want shorts that are cool, comfortable, and the RIGHT SIZE, keep looking. Sorry, but the redesign was a bad idea.

Huge flaw is that the picture doesn't show that they are literally see-through. And not like a shadow. The holes make it very clear. We have plenty of mesh shorts around our house but you can't see right through them. And I bought white so if you wear tightie whities, it looks funny. I don't know if there are white boxers out there but that would solve the problem. Although why would you spend more money rather than buy a pair that aren't see through. My son wears boxers so he might be able to keep them????

These shorts used to be great, but the manufacturer has cut corners and now they suck. I bought some black ones and they were perfect: true to size and comfy with nice deep pockets and a drawstring long enough to comfortably tie but not so long that it's in the way. I liked them so much, I went back to buy more... a couple months later and bought an assortment of colors. While they were still comfy, they were definitely not the same. The pockets are WAY too shallow. You can't even fit a modern cell phone in them without risking it falling out whenever you sit down or walk somewhere, let lone a phone and wallet. The drawstring is also about half the size as the black ones I originally bought; barely long enough to tie. The first pair I purchased had nice deep pockets and an appropriate size string, but all of the colored ones I bought are almost unusable if you need pockets. And let's be honest, everyone needs pockets. I bought gray, royal blue and burgundy and they all have super shallow pockets and a short string. Very disappointed.
