A useful device with many functions
I purchased this item because my 12-year-old VCR is on its last legs and I also want to transfer my college films from VHS to DVD as well as record programmes onto DVD. I decided to buy it from Amazon because it's slightly cheaper on this site than Argos and as an Amazon Prime customer, I didn't have to pay for delivery. The instruction manual has an accessible layout and it is very helpful. I also found the unit easy to set up but it took me quite some time to programme it to record TV shows. I find it a lot easier now; all I have to do is select the programme I want to record from the EPG and insert a blank DVD-R. The channel I want to record changes two minutes before the programme starts. One positive point about this DVD/video recorder is that it has Freeview built-in so while I record one Freeview channel, I can watch another on my 16" LCD TV, which also has intergrated Freeview. Another thing I like is that it allows me to play my video tapes and pre-recorded DVDs, but I haven't yet learnt to transfer any films from VHS to DVD.The only downsides of this unit are that some programmes I plan to record don't start exactly on time so I end up recording a bit of the previous programme or some of the adverts before it starts. Even the commercial breaks are recorded onto the disc (depending on the channel). Luckily I can fast forward through the ad breaks whenever I view the recorded programme. Sometimes the unit won't switch from VCR to DVD mode when I record a programme onto DVD and I also find the product discription misleading because this device has ordinary Freeview but not Freeview +.Overall, this is a very useful and convenient product. 4/5.

I should have gone to Specsavers
Purchased to replace a Panasonic DVD freeview recorder and a separate Ferguson VCR I had hoped for a user friendly product that allowed easy transfer of video to DVD and ease of recording. It is not a patch on the Panasonice but I decided not to replace with a Panasonic as it failed after only 2 years 3 months and I was told that it was beyond economic repair and an equivalent Panasonic machine had only just been produced and ther were apparently some problems with reliability. There is no detailed index in the extensive Toshiba guide and sections are indicated by page edge listing that does not easliy guide to the information required. I should have purchased a model with a)a hard drive and b) a separate tuner as a single tuner machine does not allow viewing another channel during recording (the tuner on the now failed Panasonic still works so I am having to use that to overcome the problem). I find some of the buttons on the remote misleading - 'disc menue' does not give a list of titles on the disc, and for that you have to go to 'setup'. It seems to be very 'picky' as far as dirt on the disc and after erasing. the rather disconcerting message 'cannot record on this disc' is displayed.I suppose that given time I might get more out of the machine, but the Panasonic was far superior: next time I will buy a Panasonic and extended guarantee!

The VHS/DVDR recorder works well
Really happy with the VHS/DVDR, everything works well and it is in good condition as described by the seller. Being using it quite a lot to record old VHS family tapes to DVD's, so really satisfied with the product.

Faulty product after 28 days and you can whistle
If you buy a product on Amazon and it goes wrong.I would have thought with a makers guarantee(not that I saw one in the box) you will get immediate action to either give you a replacement, quick repair or money refunded. No after 28 days, you wait ages for anything to occur. The makers of the product I bought Toshiba dont want to know about Amazon purchases. So I send the product back after less than 2 months and God knows when I shall see my purchase again. It was a Toshiba DVR19DTKB2 Freeview DVD/VCR Recorde Combi.I bought it to update my VHS library to DVD,nothing spectacular. After a month or so use it failed to read the tapes and was constantly tracking and distorting the pictures.I rang Toshiba who were fine until I said I bought it on Amazon, the computer 'says No'.So I had to go back to the seller OK-GO who got it picked up and without being too critical as they still have my machine told me I have to wait 2/3 weeks before I see it again.( It was picked up on Jan 26th)I suppose most sellers follow the same route on here but I for sure will not buy any electrical or electronic products on Amazon as the makers dont back up the item if it goes faulty. If it costs a few bob more in the shops so be it.

Great Combi-recorder
Could not be easier to set up and operate. There's a Quick Guide to get going with straight away then for the more detailed operation there is a comprehensive instruction book that is easy find your way around as the page edges indicate the sections for each operation. I have installed it to replace a Panasonic that works OK but is awkward when using the programme guide and also takes a long time to be able to transfer from one operation to another. This Toshiba is a pleasure to use, gives excellent picture quality, easy channel change, dubbing from VCR to DVD is easy to set up and is capable of dubbing from DVD to VCR although I have not tried that yet. I have seen some reviews on this that complain about the instruction manual and the fact that you cannot watch one DVB channel while recording another. As far as the instructions go I found no problem whatsoever. To do the latter a second external tuner is needed, just as there always has been, whether analogue or digital either in the TV or additional freeview box, Sky or Virgin.

Combi DVD player
First machine the DVD did not work sent back without any problems, the new one arrived within days and seem ok. The company were very helpful, when you purchase they enclose information stating this is an ex display, 2 year warranty and if no replacement will send money back.

Toshiba DVD/VCR
Bought to replace an analogue, single-tuner VCR for every day use, the Toshiba DVR19DTKB has enabled a seamless transition to digital channel tape recording. The DVD recording facility has been tried out successfully but is not in regular use at the moment.Controls are somewhat pig-headed, though the machine will eventually do what you request; there's room for improvement here with practice.
