Extremely satisfied with purchase, got what I expected
So I got the dreaded email from work recently. You have to go back to the office part time. It's been 3 and a half years. What am I going to do during my lunch break? How am I going to kill those dull moments waiting for a reply or just straight up steal time from my employer? Well, lucky for me, Anbernic created the RG505.I'm a typical millennial. Grew up on NES, SNES, Playstation, N64, PS2, etc etc. So I researched handheld emulators and settled on the RG505. I got it a week ago and I have to say I am very pleased with my purchase and I can already tell it will be getting a lot of use from me.The first thing to say is it feels good in my hands. The distance separation between the two sides feels good in a way that much larger screens like the Steamdeck don't. The joysticks feel great. I have been using the left joystick over the D-pad even on SNES games because it feels great. Diagonal movement is easy and responds appropriately. I will admit I have not tested this on doing things like hadoukens in Street Fighter, but I have no interest in fighting games. But in terms of character movement, it feels great in all directions. Also I can rest easy knowing they are Hall effect joysticks that will not suffer from drift like mechanicals ones inevitably will. The screen looks good. It's lower resolution than others and that is a fair point. But for me, I am interested in playing low resolution games so having a bit higher pixel density isn't achieving much for me.The speakers sounds nice for what you would expect on a handheld device, games with speech can be heard clearly.Battery life has been great. Haven't pushed it as far as I can but have had multi hour sessions only taking 30-40%.Loading ROMs onto the microSD card is simple. So yeah. There really isn't too much to a little emulator device, and Anbernic has done all the things pretty well.My two criticisms deal with the shoulder buttons. They are clicky and I think stacked shoulder buttons might feel better. Also any game you want to play where you will mainly be using the two joysticks and the shoulder buttons are going to be rather uncomfortable. This would be mainly more modern FPS games, which aren't what I'm personally looking to play on this device, but if you are looking to play any games with that kind of configuration, that is something to be aware of.Overall, I got exactly what I wanted out of the device. I've already put in plenty of hours of use to get used to the feel of holding & playing it for extended periods and it feels great. Would recommend for anyone who is into Android-level emulation. That is another point I will leave with - as you get to PS2-level consoles and up you will reach the limits of Android emulation and will need to think of a device with x86 architecture like a Steamdeck. But that's a big jump up in price. For me, this covers a range of games I'm happy with and is well worth the cost for a dedicated device with comfortable controls.

BE CAREFUL BUYING!!!!!!
Box was not sealed like new and handheld was flopping around in delivery box. SD card doesn’t work properly in device like a new console should. Not impressed. The console itself tho is in good shape and works but I did not get a new console it had been opened.

Great Retro System
Bought this as an upgrade to the RG35XX that I already had as I wanted something a little bigger along with some more power. This system delivered. Powerful and handles games like a champ. Plays a good portion of PS2 and GameCube titles, though not all. Anything before those systems works perfect. I installed GammaOS with this as well to correct the L2/R2 issue with the StockOS. Once that was done, it now streams games from my Xbox console and the Xbox Cloud flawlessly.Required minimal setup unless you prefer to install GammaOS, which is recommended and very easy to do so.This system is great if you're looking to get something good for retro gaming.

Really solid android handheld with a particularly good screen
Overall I like this enough to recommend it but with a couple of notable caveats.Pros: as I understand it this uses the same model OLED screen as the original model Sony Vita. This is the main reason I would consider paying more than similar devices to buy this. It is just a really fantastic looking screen and it is particularly nice for PSP emulation. The hardware also is just good enough to emulate PSP games like a champ and can handle some more modern system such as the PS2 and GameCube though your mileage will vary depending on the emulator and the game in question. Lower end systems like PS1, MAME, 16 and 8 bit consoles run amazing as I'd expect. Control layout is acceptable as well and I appreciate the dual analogues for PS2/GameCube and even the odd PS1 game that needs it. I also appreciate that this comes with a fairly up to date version of android and has Play store access out of the box.Cons: the version I got was loaded up with ROMs. I know that isn't actually a con for some but if the manufacturer doesn't care about doing something obviously shady I also don't 100% trust them for anything else so I am hesitant to use this for anything that would require me to enter user credentials or other personal information. This is not a dig on ROMs and emulation as most of the games are abandonware anyhow, it is just concerning that the manufacturer seems to not care about selling and bundling these ROMs.Also the D pad on this is not the best. If you hold down and rock your finger while still holding down it will still measure movement to the left and right. This makes playing some precision platformers more difficult than it should be especially until you get used to it.The biggest con by far though is the battery. Mine had a fairly common bug whereby the device could not monitor the battery level but after a Google search I found that it is a common problem that is solved by opening the device, unplugging the battery ribon cable and then plugging it back in. It worked fine after doing this but you need a special torque screw driver and not everyone is comfortable opening up and working on electronic devices. That may look like a lot of cons but at the end of the day it is still a great emulation device and has the highest quality screen I've seen on a sub $200 device so I'd still recommend it if none of those cons bother you.

Great powerful handheld
Great system, only complaint if you have large hands it gets awkward to hold after 30 min or so, joy sticks should have been better placed and come out more.
