Dr. Robert Wang developed The Jungian Tarot as a "visual gateway into the complexities of Jungian psychology" to aid in the process of active imagination proposed by Carl Jung. The 22 Major Arcana represent Jungian archetypes of the collective unconscious. The figures are visually presented with archways and circular mandalas, which aid in meditation. The court cards depict family roles: father, mother, daughter and son. The deck is a companion to the Jungian Tarot Trilogy by Robert Wang. Review: Tarot, now there's a thing - First deck. Good quality. Usefull tool. Review: Should have been made from better quality card... - Poor quality card. Not super-shiny, though still too shiny for my liking, and not much thicker than very thick paper! Very flimsy indeed. I'm disappointed, because I paid a fair amount for them from a US seller (more than double the price they're available for via desertcart right now). Other than that, the traditionally-styled artwork is rich in colour and detail. Generally, people seem realistic and unique, and the scenes contain the usual symbolism, which a few alterations, such as a panther (or similar big cat) on the Fool card, rather than a dog or crocodile. The images contain virtually no nudity - just one card shows a woman's breasts, another shows two bare bottoms - just in case anyone finds naked bodies offensive! The images on the back aren't symmetrical (so you know what way up they are when shuffling), and individual cards aren't titled or numbered. The last two points aren't necessarily negative, depending on how experienced you are, how you plan to use the cards, and what your personal preferences are; but I thought it important to note them. I haven't had a chance to work with the cards yet, either for meditation or readings (I'll edit the review once I have), but the images seem very powerful for a first glance through. The characters on the major and court cards stare intensely at you from their windows/frames, and I feel working with them will result in some interesting experiences. I'd have liked to have awarded this deck 5 stars, but the the quality disappointed me that much. Perhaps By the time I edit this review they'll have made such an impression I can warrant changing my rating... I do hope so; it's an awful shame when they ruin someone's hard work by producing it from crappy materials.

Not what I expected, but good quality
This deck is made of good paper stock but not fully lived to my expectations. The major arcana don't have numbers, it is easy for some of the cards with a reference, but to me the magician looks like the hermit or the sun looks like many others. You could identify death, Tower, chariot, hanged man... The rest is not clear. Pictures/drawing are of good quality and so are the colours. The court card are also a mistery, true arcana their identity. Not to mention the pip cards; boring just same backgrounds I.e.red for fire/wands blue for water/cups - even more linear than the Marseille tarot. The colour and the paper stock feels OK and they come with a sturdy box. The back of the cards is very colourful but has a reverse side... so 4 stars in my book.

an inevitable buy for my collection
In some ways, this was an inevitable buy for my collection: Jung and tarot, what's not to like? However, what galls me is that the price is very high for a simple deck without accompanying text and one must buy the book separately too, to be able to use the book as effectively as one might hope. The art work is excellent, and the quality of the cards is better than expected after one review suggested they were poor in quality (perhaps they have been reissued on better card), though the pip cards have much less imagery to explore. Definitely recommend to anyone who has explored both the world of Jung and the world of tarot.

Nice interpretation on line with the basic tarot
This "expansive" Tarot deck from Jung philosophy may complete and enlarge one's experience with tarot symbolism. You will need the The Jungian Tarot and Its Archetypal Imagery for a better understanding!

are very different to those most often used for the RW deck - so this deck is not easily transferable based on a preexisting kno
This is undoubtedly and interesting deck of tarot cards. The artwork and colours are attractive and have a dream-like quality. Beware though if you're looking for another generic Rider-Waite clone, the interpretation of the cards, especially the minor pips, are very different to those most often used for the RW deck - so this deck is not easily transferable based on a preexisting knowledge of the RW. However, that's no bad thing and this deck has much to offer particularly for meditation, and personal development work. Another caution is that you'll need the corresponding book 'Tarot Psychology' also by Robert Wang to make any headway with the deck. There is no booklet In the box meaning if you just buy the cards you won't know their meaning! - which is a real oversight. Other than that, I enjoyed this deck and it's imagery enormously.

Fine; lacks diversity
I'm studying Jungian psychology in my MA course and bought this deck to better navigate archetypes and use them in my future practice. The deck is fine but as I was flipping through it, I was like WOW. All these figures are white and blonde-haired-- every single one. Why? I would feel uncomfortable using this deck in my community and feel it does not represent the universality of archetypes. It more accurately represents Jung's outdated ideas.

Understanding Deck is similar to new, aspiring doctor
This Deck is not for a beginner in Tarot. There are no numerals or wording on the cards. I have read that some of the first Tarot decks in existence followed this idea. However, those who have knowledge of Tarot cards, can easily identify the cards of the Major Arcana. In fact, there are 2 extra cards in the Deck which clearly show which cards in this Deck relate to the Major Arcana cards of other decks. The Court Cards can also be easily recognized, although they basically look alike, except for suit color and symbol. To me, the pip cards were the problem. What you see in the pip cards are the suit's symbols 1-10 of them, various patterns of the 4 elements and symbols of the suits, and various colorations. I don't agree with those who state that the pip cards are unimaginative, I think they are very imaginative and well thought out. The only problem was, that, for quite awhile, I had no idea as to how to interpret these cards, without memorizing the meanings given by Wang. There is no LWB with the deck, and the 3 books relating to this deck, gave me almost no help in my quest to understand the illustrations of the pip cards. I even contacted Tarot websites for help, but I received no response. I did not give up! I re-read some books on Kabbalah and read a book on Modern Astrology. So, I tried to understand the pip cards again. Using the text of Wang's books on this Deck, the astrological designations given to the cards by Wang, the Kabbalistic ideas regarding the Tree of Life Sephirot, and also by looking at the number and position of the suit symbols on each card, and the patterns and colors of the 4 elements on each card, I was finally able to understand the pip cards. After all that, I came to the conclusion that this is an amazing Deck. Wang believes that the Tarot should be used primarily for meditation, and that time should be spent on studying the cards. He was partially successful with me. I really didn't do much meditating on the cards, but I spent quite alot of time studying this Deck. In fact, I am still drawn to this Deck to analyze it some more. Now to why I say that this Deck is similar to a new, aspiring doctor. I always tell new, young and aspiring doctors and medical students, that in order to be successful, they have to have alot of patients. Similarly, in order to be successful in understanding the Jungian Tarot, you have to have alot of patience.

Ottime
Bellissime immagini, molto evocative. Ottima finitura: sembrano resistenti.

I love it, but this is not for everyone.
Before getting this deck, keep in mind several elements: the minors have their own system, the whole deck has different astrological correspondences, the majors have some drastic reinterpretations with specific preferences in Jumgian thought and the little booklet is not super helpful in most of these elements, but neither is it terrible. I personally found that the deck's system for the minors was rather easy to learn and use, and if you are familiar with the zodiac and planets, flows quite nicely. However, it results in drastically differwnt meanings for most of the pips. Don't be shocked to find that 10 of Cups is the worst minor arcanum in the deck. Also, keep in mind that the system only uses cardinal signs, which might be a minus. The little booklet gives the meanings just fine, and you can look up meanings by googling "planet in sign", as in "Jupiter in Libra". The majors are the real highlight of the deck in my opinion. I found them deeply evocative and mysterious. They are highly reinterpreted according to Jungian archetypes, his view of the psyche and mythic interpretations. The courts feel rather bland amd repetitive in illustrations, but the system is very interesting. Keep in mind that the figures are all white, and some women are connected to the underworld and have cthonic implications. As for the three companion books, I've read Tarot Psychology and The Jungian Tarot and its Archetypal Imagery. Tarot Psychology is essentially the book that should have come with the deck. It goes deeper into all the cards (2 pages for majors and 1 page for pips and courts, but the font is rather large). It was useful for the minor arcana, but was confusing for the Majors. It also gives some basic exercises for meditating on the Majors and lists the correspondences of the Minors. The Jungian Tarot and its Archetypal Imagery is how I really understood the Major Arcana. It reads rather academically and unpacks the reinterpretations Wang did in the deck in a fair amount of detail. Recommended reading for this deck.
