these are the right ones for pigs
these bulkheads work great in barrels or other plastic medium. We use them to water pigs.

Pig water barrel
The media could not be loaded. Got this to use with the pig water nipples that I got from tractor supply. Installing just the nipple led to leaking, but combining with this has made the barrels leak proof and made my life much easier when it comes to making sure these guys have plenty of fresh clean water.

Used this to add a drain valve to a wetvac tank. :)
I recently bought a small Wet/Dry vac that is designed to mount to a wall, for cleaning up melt water from the snow our car brings into the garage . Removing it from the wall, all its tools, and tool rack, etc. to empty the tank when is inconvenient, as it won't hold enough water to do the whole job in one pass. Unlike larger Wetvacs, this one has no drain port. You have to remove the top to dump the tank. So I added this fitting, an adapter to garden hose thread, and a garden hose valve to the side of the Wetvac tank at the bottom. I can easily drain it into a bucket how ever many times are needed, and only have to remove the Wetvac from the wall once at the end of the job, for air drying the inside. The fitting is well made and does not leak.

Works Well, Use Teflon Tape
I bought 6 of these for a hydroponic system. Others have complained that they leak. I found that by installing the washer on the inside that the only leaking was coming from the screw threads. By using quite a bit of teflon tape on the screw threads I was able to tighten it up and don't have any issues. I wish they came with two washers, which is why I give it 4 stars and not 5; however, with a plumbers wrench and some teflon tape they work.

Work great just go easy installing them
Great price, easy to install, a stepped drill bit is a good idea. Used these along with pig watering nipples to build a waterer for our pigs and it’s worked great! A lot of people complained about these cracking or not sealing it’s simply not true, the trick is go easy, don’t over tighten them! I went hand tight plus a quarter turn, then filled the barrel and checked for leaks, not one drop. So far they have been in temps down to the low 20s and the water has frozen near solid once. So far not one leak

Plastic
Looks like metal in picture, my bad on not reading material. Used them for pig nipples and they broke one is hours. Next in a day and another in another day so 1 left after 3 days. Do not suggest for any animal that could be rough.

It's ok
This did work as a bulkhead fitting. However, nothing in the world threads to the backside of this thing. I wanted to connect a hose to the other end but ended up having to grind down the threads and apply thread tape to make a makeshift fitting. If all you want is to attach to the outside of a tank with a 1/2 inch tap then this will work for you.
