This Book Didn’t Teach Me More—It Helped Me Let Go
I picked this book up during a time where, on paper, everything in my life was going right—great momentum in my career, big opportunities ahead—but internally, I was feeling more anxious than I needed to be.I wasn’t looking for some “deep spiritual journey.” I was just hoping to find something that could help me quiet my mind and stay focused. What I got was something way more powerful than that. This book helped me see how much of my stress wasn’t from life itself—but from the way I was thinking about life. It’s not heavy or complicated. It’s super digestible, direct, and hits you with truths that feel obvious after you read them—but you never saw it that way before.Nguyen ties in simple stories, even old proverbs, to make his points land. One that stuck with me was about a young scholar who had to empty his cup before receiving the master’s teaching. And honestly? That’s exactly how some of these critics sound—like their cup is still full. They miss the point completely. This isn’t a book you “analyze.” It’s a book you feel. It’s not here to impress you with language—it’s here to help you experience peace. And it did that for me.I realized I’m not my thinking brain. And the moment I stopped thinking (negative thought patterns) —The anxiety fades. My clarity comes back. And I move better. If you’re someone chasing big goals but feel like your mind’s always racing, or you’re trying to be more present without forcing it, read this. Not to learn something new, but to unlearn the stuff that’s been getting in your way.

Life changing philosophy
I would definitely say the first half of the book was life changing. I was left with my jaw dropped after almost every chapter. The chapters were very short but powerful making me feel like I was flying through the book. In my opinion reading this from a Christian POV I didn’t like how much it talked about the universe but other than that the book is definitely worth reading, very life changing.

Don't believe Everything you think
Life-Changing Perspective ShiftDon't Believe Everything You Think is a beautifully simple yet deeply profound book that challenges the way we relate to our thoughts, emotions, and sense of self. Joseph Nguyen offers a compassionate and eye-opening guide to inner peace, rooted in mindfulness and the understanding that we are not our thoughts—we are the awareness behind them. What stood out most to me was how accessible this book is. It's not weighed down by jargon or complex philosophy. Instead, it's filled with clarity, kindness, and actionable insights. Nguyen gently guides you to recognize that so much of our suffering comes from believing untrue thoughts, and that true freedom lies in letting go and being present.Whether you're struggling with anxiety, self-doubt, or just feel stuck in overthinking, this book provides a refreshing new way to experience life with more ease and self-acceptance. I found myself feeling lighter with each chapter, and I’ve already recommended it to several friends.A must-read for anyone ready to reconnect with themselves and discover a quieter, truer way to live.

Too Simplistic to Be Truly Helpful
This book delivers its message in a clear, straightforward way and may appeal to readers looking for a quick, calming perspective on overthinking. However, the central idea, that peace comes from not engaging with thoughts, felt too simplistic for me. I would have preferred more nuance, evidence, and practical strategies for applying the concepts in real life. Some sections felt repetitive, and the approach seemed one-size-fits-all rather than adaptable to different personalities and situations. What concerns me most is the risk of taking this mindset too literally. Completely disengaging from your thoughts can lead to passivity, reduced critical thinking, and increased vulnerability to manipulation. While moments of mental quiet can be valuable, I believe it’s far healthier to question and examine your thoughts rather than silence them entirely. While it’s easy to finish in one sitting, it left me wanting more depth, balance, and caution in its advice.
