They are definitely vegan. Contact the manufacturer for this information. I am sure you can use it for homebrew cider, I use it in all my cooking and drinks. The only thing I would warn about is that if I accidentally add it to the water before adding CO2 for a fizzy drink it bubbles up everywhere! ? so may be best to add after brewing process is over? not sure about that

Why does mine tastes and smells like peaches and not at all like passion fruit?

I really don’t know ,mine is a lovely passion fruit flavour.
