Superhero School

Superhero School is SUPER!
My four-year-old son recently showed a sudden interest in super heroes (Batman, Superman, et al.), but I could not find anything that I considered appropriate for him (i.e., not too scary and not too adult). This book fits the bill! It's a clever and engaging story about a boy and his friends at Superhero School who use their super powers--and the math lessons they've learned at school--to save their teachers from the evil ice zombies. (Don't worry! The zombies are not very scary.) He loves me to read it to him over and over, and I keep hearing him repeat his favorite lines from the book (e.g., "Suddently, it hit him like a giant mutant octopus!"). I think it will also be a book he will enjoy reading himself once he gets to that point. (He can already read some of it.) I would recommend this to anyone who is looking for a book for children ages 3 to 9 who are interested in super heroes.

I read this on the first day of school the kids LOVED this book
I teach 3rd grade and this year I went with a superhero theme for my classroom. I read this on the first day of school the kids LOVED this book! It teaches them that all hero's need more than just physical strength, but academic strength to make them truly powerful! I was able to pull a days math lesson from the text as well! This will be a must read every year!

Not Aaron Reynold's Best (By a Long Shot)
Bought this book based on my four-year-olds love of both Creepy Carrots and Chicks and Salsa (which happen to be two of my favorite books as well). So we had really high hopes going into this book. However, this book was disappointing for me, my husband, and our four-year-old son. Although the idea behind this book is a solid one and the proliferation of math concepts throughout is a nice idea in theory, some really clunky writing makes this book tedious and a real chore to read. My son has never asked for it after the first time. And that hardly ever happens when it comes to books for him. Perhaps we will save this for when he gets a little bit older, and he may have a renewed interest in it. But for now, its a total dud.

Wonderful
Highly entertaining book that is ALSO educational! Fun for smaller kids, and when they get a little older they'll get the math part. One of my all time fave book purchases. Visually presents math facts with great success.
