Q: Are these about the same size as a gallon of milk? Will two of these fit in a milk shelf in a refrigerator?

I have a very tiny fridge so I really cannot say. However the bottom of a gallon of milk measures 6" X 6". These containers measure 5&1/2" X 6 &1/8.Hope this is helpful.

Q: Can you use it for hot liquids?

Depends on how hot, but I don't see why not.

Q: What is the lifespan of these jugs?

I bought mine (six) in 2011. Hand wash them all. Look brand new. You just have to carefully screw the tops on, otherwise they will leak (common sense).

Q: Are these containers the one with the red lid and the one with the green lid clear? They look white in this photo.

Don't know about a green lid ... the pitcher is translucent not white.
