The Substance

I got this movie and I love quirky weird horror movies. My favorite kind of horror movies are the disturbing ones . This one was right up my alley. It's extremely gory, enough to make your stomach turn, and has tons of nudity. The acting in this is incredible both from Demi Moore and Margaret Qualley and how much of an a hole of Dennis Quaid's acting as well. It is supposed to be a gory horror movie to make you queasy, but I actually saw it as a dark comedy kind of. I just found it humorous because of the narcissism of what a Top Model could be like, not to say that all models are narcissists, but this definitely shows ugly side of it. The 4K quality on this movie is incredible (I believe it is presented in Dolby vision) even on a crappy second gen 4K TV. The sound is really nice, I believe it's DTS-HD for DTS:X, I'm not 100% sure. So I'm extremely happy that I bought this and I would definitely watch it several times in the future.

This was a blind buy, and I was surprised how much I enjoyed it! It's a modern, slick body horror done with style! Demi Moore deserved the nomination, and this is a fun horror film!

I liked the movie. It was entertaining (although it was kind of gory) and a huge departure for Demi Moore.

My wife and I watched this movie on Blu-Ray this evening. I liked it. She didn’t. My wife thought it was dumb, and she was also grossed out by it at times. What I liked about it is the story is unique and not typical horror film fare. The cinematography is quite interesting with many different camera perspectives and close ups. The makeup and special effects are impressive. There is a significant amount of nudity in this movie but not of a sexual nature. The gore is quite over the top, especially toward the end of the film. The best way I can describe this movie is it’s like.a Twilight Zone episode with more gore than horror.

I only heard about this movie but I'm very happy I bought it. Both Main actresses were femoninal and even Quaid as a small role was great. Their Duality was cool to see. But the only downside it says is if you get squirmish easily there's a few parts that even got me. Definitely worth a watch or to own.

I’m a big fan of horror movies, and I had high hopes for The Substance when I bought it. Unfortunately, it was a big disappointment. It started out okay, but quickly went downhill. Demi Moore is introduced to the Substance, but we never learn anything about it. Some explanation would have really added to the story instead of the numerous scenes of sexy aerobics. The situations that occur when using the Substance become more and more unbelievable, leading to a ridiculous ending. It was also disappointing to see older women portrayed as monsters. The whole thing is just absurd and disappointing.

Disturbing. And I loved it!
