Having had little success with solar powered lights around our hot tub (I guess the location is too shady), I decided on battery power. They're only on for 1-2 hours, 6-7 times per month so battery life shouldn't be a problem. I did, however, look for a set taking AA batteries because these last much longer than AAA. Several other sets I looked at were AAA which would be more costly to run. Only used them once but they seem good. I don't need the remote - you can cycle them through the different phases using the on/off switch on the battery box. For maximum relaxation I would recommend permanently on or slow fade up and down. Haven't had them long enough to really judge battery life so I'll try to come back to this review after a month or two.29 December 2018 - Update: the first set of batteries have been lasting well - something like 6 x 2 hour sessions in the hot tub up to yesterday. Then, last night I forgot to turn them off, and they're still going strong this morning. So, my conclusion is that you shoud expect to get at least 20 hours out of a set of AA batteries (I'm using the batteries from a well known Scandinavian flat-pack furniture supplier). I use the lights in 'always on' mode, so I guess if you like them flashing you'd get even longer. I think this is very good for battery-powered lights.

Wonderful lights that are well made and very bright.The settings button comes with a timer, a light setting switch, a brightness control panel as well as an on and off button for easy access.The only thing I can advise however is that you buy a two-prong adapter plug as these are EU plug based, the same as a typical electric toothbrush adapter.Wonderful quality, brightness and controls! Definitely my new favorite decoration :)

Nice lights but you need much longer length than this to have any effect . I put them on a very small bush but needed another set of lights to make any real light effect .

Nice short term garden decoration. 2 sets bought and both developed faults in the switch area, 1 lasted around 5 months the other around 8 months.Very cheap.

The lights are stunning I can’t wait to put them up in my room, there are loads of settings and they’re a lovely warm colour.Only problem is that the remote doesn’t work which is a slight inconvenience.

I've hung these in my garden and they give off a beautiful warm, inviting light. The remote control works really well and is a bonus
