Works as it should. These are a must have for primitive campers or survivalist's. This one is a good quality rod and striker. Lots of hot sparks once you scrape the paint off which will protect it from moisture (don't let it set in dampness or these will start to disintegrate - I keep mine in a zip lock sandwich bag with my fire-starting kit). These work well. I do recommend.

I like this size ferro rod for my pack. Its too bulky for EDC, but it has a special place in my bug out bag's fire kit. I find these rods are easier to use than the smaller ones. Works well, produces a hot spark.

I have owned other ferro rods over the years, but these work just as well. It's big enough to get a good hold on it and it creates a lot of sparks. The paracord is good quality. The little whistle is more of a toy, but it does make noise. Who knows how man strikes you'll get but It's still a good value for the cost.

Great tool to have when camping. Matches and a lighter will work, but a fire starter works great in many situations where matches will not. A simple and very reliable tool. NOTE: The fire started comes with a coating on the rod that needs to be scraped off before the unit will spark. It's not necessary to scrape the entire rod, just the line you need to make sparks. The coating is a government safety regulation in place to prevent shipping accidents. Buy a couple to keep one in the car for emergencies.

Silly that this ferro rod is painted/coated so it does not spark until the black material is removed from the area to be scraped. Not sure why they do this. Perhaps it will rust without this. I got a good spark once I scratched off some of the black coating and gave it a try.

Very nice and big like i like it. It strikes well easily getting a spark. I always keep one ion these around for emergencies. This is very nice the stricker nice big sparks every time.
