It may do, it may not - much less rugged than would be expected
As others have been saying, it's not a rugged type or style at all, but only comparably rugged in relation to other offers. It's surprising given that the 9 Lite is a very popular budget smart phone in this country, which happens to have an easily breakable glass back. (9 Lite is a different size to the Honor 9, which has a lot more and better covers on offer for it.)The 9 Lite does come with its own plastic cover, out of the box, a clear, very hard plastic which isn't bad at all. It's just that people will be looking for something more rubbery and probably slightly thicker for drops. This Spigen case is a bit more rubbery, but not much really.I was expecting an absorbent silicone like or rubbery cover for the phone based on the 'rugged' description, something with enough of a bounce in it to absorb shocks. I don't think there's any bounce in this. It's made of carbon and is a softer, more flexible cover compared to Honor's own hard cover out of the box, but still not bouncey or much absorbent soft. The Spigen slips on rather than clicking on like the hard cover. It will protect the phone up to a point I think. But I don't know what that point is, or what height of a drop, that's the crux of things. I've actually been wondering which might be better - the original plastic case or this. I think the hard plastic case is just slightly thicker. But I'd go with the Spigen.SIZE. Mine fits the 9 Lite perfectly. One reviewer said that his was too big. So before mine arrived and then reading the reviews of its slightness in rugged terms, I thought maybe I could fit the Spigen over the plastic hard cover - 2 covers. I've tried that, but it makes it unsafe. It doesn't protect the front that way, so for the Spigen to work as intended, it must be used on its own. The carbon Spigen edges stick out from its sides really 1 to 2 mm just over the front edges of the 9 Lite. That protects the front face from falls unless the front screen would hit a corner. There are no strips over the phone face front. As others have noted, there is a worry about the fragile glass back, one person saying that a 2 foot drop could break it with this cover on. I'm not sure about that. But I am worried about holding it at standing usage height onto a hard floor or pavement - so around 4 feet give or take a little. The thing is no-one is going to test it, are they?I may see if I can cut up one layer of some flat rubber bands and just place them between the back of the phone and the Spigen cover. Some people have been talking about that the phone gets hot - back and sides. I've not given enough processor use yet to determine that either way. But it's disappointing anyway that the "rugged" cover described is not rugged really, and that there are no air gaps. Easily the design could have been made of thicker strips to protect corners and strips across the back, while giving gaps to allow heat out.I'm giving 3 stars rather than 2 - firstly because it seems there's nothing else out there, secondly as it might hold up ok to 2 to 4 foot drops, and who knows - even to the odd 4 foot drop. (Despite that this non-rugged rugged design is the one for such an easily shattered phone.) You can't be sure.I have to recommend it in the absence of anything else. Again, who knows - it could be surprisingly ok. No reviews from drops which killed the phone yet. Also - though not tried yet, I feel safer with the idea of flat rubber band parts at the back and think things can be ok this way.

The best of a bad bunch of cases.
Okay, where do I start? For the money I think it's overpriced by maybe as much as £4. I paid £9.99. I feel it's really only worth £6, compared to whats out there. I wanted and knew this wasn't a true Armor Case but so far it's the best out of a bunch of ONE!. Spigen say it's a rugged armor case. Well, it makes the phone easier to hold and use the buttons, a little more chunkey in the hand so less likely to drop it. BUT, will the phone survive a drop from say pocket height? I very much doubt it. It fits fine, it's just really not a true armour case in anything but name. The problem is for the Honor 9 Lite unless you can tell me other wise there are no REAL ARMOUR cases out there for this phone. Which is a shame. I personally have a Samsung Galaxy Note 9 with a full 360 Armour case that has been dropped from my chest height (taking it out of my inner breast jacket pocket, it slipped) my phone and case survived the drop onto concrete. The Honor 9 Lite has a beautiful glass back as well as the screen and no their not gorilla glass. And this is the best armour case around for this phone? Crazy! So should you buy this case? Only if it remains the best of a bad bunch of cases.

Very protective
I have dropped my phone many times and this case protected it so well. I don't even have any scratches on my screen.

Good protection
I've dropped my phone so many times now and it's the case that has held it together. I like the design and it covers all sides of the phone really well. Buttons are nice and clicky, port areas work well. However, it is a little bulky but not too much that it worries me. Great buy!

Good quality
Seems good quality and I'm sure it will do the job, but not as attractive as the clear gel Sparin case I had on my previous MotoG. Unfortunately Sparin at this time don't do one for the Honor 9 Lite.

I could not be happier with this case. I am delighted with the look, the texture of the material and the design.

Great little phone protector, fits lovely with honor 9 lite, and the side buttons have very satisfying click.

Must buy for those on a budget.
This was a cheap case that provided drop protection (that has unfortunately been tested a few times) that works.
